Camping

HOTELS  |  INNS AND BED & BREAKFASTS  |  MOTELS AND BUDGET  |  CAMPING

Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown are in a densely populated part of Westchester County, New York. Except for Croton Point Park, camping will always involve a commute to Halloween events. If traveling by RV, plan ahead. The major parkways are restricted to certain vehicle classes (low clearance bridges) and our local municipal parking lots are designed for passenger cars. Of necessity, some historic properties also prohibit larger vehicles.

Pet friendly rooms available at this hotel.Croton Point Park, Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520, 914-862-5290. This 500 acre peninsula juts into the Hudson River about 8 miles north of Sleepy Hollow. The park offers cabins, RV sites, and tent sites. The cabin area can be raucous, but the views of the Hudson River are spectacular. Enjoy the sandy beach, launch a boat (sailboards, canoes, kayaks, and car-top carried boats only), or fish off the rocky point. The park is also a popular spot for bird watchers, with frequent sightings of bald eagles and several species of hawks. Discounts apply for holders of Westchester County parks pass. Dogs must be leashed. Service animals welcome.

Pet friendly rooms available at this hotel.Harriman State Park, in Rockland and Orange counties, is the second-largest park in the New York state parks system, with 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, three beaches, public camping areas, and miles of streams and scenic roads. At over 44,000 acres, this is as close to wilderness as you can find near New York City. About 25 miles from Sleepy Hollow, across the Tappan Zee Bridge (toll). Pets: Dogs only, must be on a leash not more than 6 feet at all times. Not allowed in buildings or beach/bathing areas. Must display rabies tag. Beaver Pond Campgrounds offers tent and RV sites. Sebago Cabin Camp has cabins and cottages. Reserve through Reserve America at 1-800-456-CAMP, 1-800-456-2267.

Highland Falls RV Park & Marina, 72 Station Road Highland Falls, NY 10928, 845-839-0361. Open year-round, full hookups, restrooms, free WiFi. Two-day minimum, weekly and monthly rates available. This property is on the west bank of the Hudson River about 25 miles from Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. The main building is the historic Highland Falls train station. The marina is separated from the RV park by CSX freight line. Expect regular train traffic and horn soundings at the crossing.

Pet friendly rooms available at this hotel.Newburgh KOA Holiday, 119 Freetown Highway, Plattekill, NY 12589. RV sites, cabins and tent sites.
