This October, Sleepy Hollow Cinema launches its inaugural Home for Horror series, a three-weekend celebration of horror cinema that leans into the village’s namesake legend. Screening Fridays through Sundays on October 16–18, 23–25, and 30–November 1 at the Lyceum Building (39 North Broadway, Tarrytown), the lineup spans decades of the genre — from classics like The Exorcist (rare 16mm print), Night of the Living Dead, and Bride of Frankenstein to slasher staples Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, plus cult favorites Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Trick ‘r Treat.
The series is designed with something for everyone: cozy family-friendly matinees pairing Disney’s animated short The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with PG fare like The Corpse Bride, Hotel Transylvania, The Addams Family, and Monster House; late-night screenings for die-hard horror fans; and Spanish-language showings including El Orfanato and [REC]. Weekend three culminates on Halloween itself with a full day of programming, from a family matinee of Addams Family Values to a Friday the 13th/Halloween II/Trick ‘r Treat triple bill.
Tickets for all showings are available through Eventbrite at sleepyhollowcinema.org, and advance purchase is strongly recommended due to limited seating. The series supports Sleepy Hollow Cinema’s mission as a new community nonprofit working to bring a permanent downtown cinema back to Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown.
