Muddy Water Coffee & Café has been a Tarrytown hangout since opening in 2015, in an old Main Street building with creaky wooden floors, tin ceilings, and exposed brick. The café serves organic, fair-trade coffee and espresso drinks, plus chai, matcha, and teas, along with baked goods that include vegan and gluten-free options. The kitchen also turns out savory soups, salads, sandwiches, and quiches. Westchester Magazine named it Best New Coffee Shop in 2017 and gave it an Editor’s Choice award for best cappuccino in 2021, according to the café.
Orders are placed at the counter. Settle in at a café table in the front room, the comfy lounge in back, or the enclosed garden when the weather’s nice. Free Wi-Fi makes it a favorite for laptops and long reads, and the café has hosted open-mic nights, live music, and poetry readings.
