The Historical Society, Inc. of Sleepy Hollow & Tarrytown has served as keeper of the villages’ collective memory since 1889, collecting, preserving, and celebrating the history of both communities from its home at the Jacob Odell House on Grove Street. Its members work to protect the character of the area through a museum, ongoing research services, educational programs, and beloved traditions like the annual Strawberry Festival, a hometown celebration straight out of a Norman Rockwell illustration. The museum is generally open Thursdays and Saturdays from 2–4:30 pm (weather permitting), and research appointments can be arranged by email.

Throughout September and October, the Society leads its popular TarryHollow walking tours, 90-minute immersive journeys through Sleepy Hollow’s colonial past that begin with the first Dutch settlers of Philipsburg Manor and trace the ground behind Washington Irving’s legend, with select tours offered in Spanish. The fall season also brings the Society’s annual Autumn Wine Tasting and Preservation Award Fundraiser.
