Poetry of Kyle Dacuyan

September 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$15

“Whatever outcome or future we find ourselves in, whenever and wherever this reaches you, we will need the defiance of poetry.”

–Kyle Dacuyan

Poet Kyle Dacuyan’s work encourages readers to question the forces of work, profit, borders, ownership, and hierarchy. His powerful voice asks what we can do when freed of the expectation to prove function and demonstrate work.

During his residency at The Pocantico Center, Dacuyan will present a work-in-process reading of Dad Rock, an episodic monologue bringing together poetry, movement, video, and original music composition. The work considers the interrelations of authority, discipline, and punishment; the construction of patriarchal archetypes in music and other popular culture; and the ways these connect with global patterns of imperial violence. A reception will follow.

This event is presented in partnership with The Shed and the RBF Culpeper Arts & Culture program.
