Christ Episcopal Church in Tarrytown, where Washington Irving once worshipped, is thrilled to bring back its Fall Fair in 2024! From 10 am to 4 pm, visitors can shop for books, vintage clothing, jewelry, toys, and more. Don’t forget to stop by the International Café and Bake Sale for delicious homemade treats. There will also be crafts and games for children, making it a fun day for the whole family.

This festival at Tarrytown’s historic Christ Episcopal Church San Marcos serves as the church’s major annual fundraiser. With a variety of attractions, including a boutique featuring jewelry, artwork, trinkets, and collectibles, the White Elephants bargain section, and even sports equipment and electronics, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Founded in 1836, Christ Church San Marcos has grown and adapted to meet the needs of its local community. For years, the church hall has been home to the Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow. The church also offers additional services, including a Clothing Closet, a scholarship fund that helps local youth attend summer enrichment programs, a series of Saturday night concerts, and an annual Day of Defiant Hope social justice forum.

Washington Irving, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” followed the Rev. Dr. William Creighton to this church from Zion Episcopal in Dobbs Ferry. Irving was a vestryman, warden, Sunday School teacher, and regular parishioner at Christ Church until his death in 1859. The ivy on the church walls is from cuttings taken at Irving’s home, Sunnyside, and his pew is still marked in the front of the sanctuary.
