Celebrate the Blessing of the Animals at Christ Church! Furry friends, fish & fowl, snakes, bugs, and every creature in between are welcome — pets and people of all faiths, and no faith, are invited to join this joyful, rain-or-shine tradition marking the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Blessing takes place in front of the historic church. All pets should be leashed or in carriers.

Christ Church holds a special place in Sleepy Hollow history: Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, followed the Rev. Dr. William Creighton to this parish from Zion Episcopal in Dobbs Ferry. Irving served as vestryman, warden, and Sunday School teacher here until his death in 1859 — the ivy on the church’s walls was cut from his home, Sunnyside, and his pew is still marked in the sanctuary today.

Come celebrate the bond between people and animals in one of Sleepy Hollow Country’s most historic settings.
