Visit Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown
Where the Legend Lives
The marshy area where Ichabod Crane first encountered the headless horseman has long since been drained, but its stream still flows through a park half in the village of Tarrytown and half in the village of Sleepy Hollow (Tarrytown owns and administers the whole park). A monument marks the spot where, on September 23, 1780, three local militiamen captured British spy John André, exposing American general Benedict Arnold’s treasonous plan to turn over the fortifications at West Point to the British. Tarrytown’s and Sleepy Hollow’s weekly farmers market meets here in season.
There’s something for everyone in Sleepy Hollow Country—farmers markets, live music, street fairs, historic homes, hiking trails, kayaking and boating on the Hudson River. Halloween season brings even more for the whole family—haunted hayrides, blazing pumpkins, costumed 10K run, Halloween parade, and of course, the Headless Horseman!
