SUMMARY:Midcentury Homes of Holly Place: A Tour of Westchester Historic Home Interiors
DESCRIPTION:Step inside midcentury modern homes and see and learn about many more as we tour one of Westchester’s “hidden” neighborhoods of historic homes in Briarcliff Manor! \nWhat may be passed by as an unassuming cul-de-sac\, Holly Place is a lovely haven of about a dozen unique dwellings from the 1960s and 70s by the architectural\, engineering\, and landscape design firm Wenning Associates. \nSpecial interior stops include a 1966 home that blends dramatic height and expansive glass with the warmth of wood ceilings and textured brick and a home from 1967 anchored by its octagonal foyer that combines full-height windows\, clerestories\, and partial walls to fill the spaces with light and playful shadows. \nLed by MIT graduate Harry Wenning\, the Wenning Associates design team included the award-winning landscape architect Armand Benedek. Wenning and his firm designed a long list of impressive modernist buildings in the region\, including churches\, country clubs\, and residences. One of his homes\, a hilltop oasis with indoor pool\, was a featured stop on our tour of modernist homes in Fairfield\, CT\, earlier this year! \nWenning’s name may not be a household one\, but his talent is once again beginning to get some recognition; the firm’s nearby Ossining project of homes known as Robinwood was recognized for its architectural significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. Join the Holly Place tour for the unique chance to step inside Wenning homes and experience his talent! \nWalking tour. Offered one day only. Space is limited. \nTwo times available: 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tour length approximately two hours. \nThe tour will take place along Holly Place in Briarcliff Manor. Specific meet-up location in the neighborhood to be provided via email.
