SUMMARY:The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Local Lore
DESCRIPTION:Follow a lamplit path to the ruins of Rockwood Hall\, high above the Hudson\, where storyteller and author David Neilsen is waiting with an evening of Sleepy Hollow’s lesser-known ghost stories — and one very famous one. \nThe program opens with local lore drawn from the preserve’s own ground\, the tales Washington Irving didn’t make famous\, before turning to “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” itself and the real places behind it. It closes the way it has to: with the Headless Horseman\, mounted\, riding out of the dark. \nDress for a night walk on unpaved park paths in late October. \nNote that Rockwood Hall is the preserve’s western section\, reached from Route 9 — not the main entrance on Route 117. Advance tickets through Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze
DESCRIPTION:More than 7\,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns light up the riverside grounds of Van Cortlandt Manor.\nTen acres of an 18th-century estate above the Hudson become a half-mile walk past life-sized dinosaurs\, a working carousel\, a planetarium built entirely of glowing gourds\, and the Headless Horseman riding out of the dark. \nArches\, tunnels\, and clearings open up where the pumpkins climb well above head height\, all of it lit in sequence and scored to an original soundtrack\, so the light moves with the music and the walk keeps reintroducing itself around each bend. \nNew for 2026: a longer path with more displays than any previous season\, movie-monster photo ops\, storybook characters carved to look like they’ve stepped off the page\, and a full pumpkin dance party. \nSpooky\, not scary. No jump scares\, no actors chasing you — it works as well for a six-year-old as for the friend who claims they’ve outgrown Halloween. \nTwo ticketed add-ons let you step off the trail midway: the Gourd & Goblet Tavern\, inside the manor’s 18th-century brick tavern\, and the Headless Horseman’s Hideaway\, a pop-up lounge with visits from the Horseman himself. Both must be booked in advance. \nAdvance tickets only — nothing is sold at the gate\, and dates sell out. FLEX tickets get you in on any open night\, even when the calendar is full. \n2026 dates: Select dates\, September 18-November 8. Open every night in October. Entry times vary by date.

SUMMARY:Macbeth
DESCRIPTION:Anywhere Theatre Company presents a new vision of Macbeth: a demon-haunted world where Shakespeare’s Scottish king brings forth ancient forces that are terrifyingly real. As Macbeth descends into madness\, the supernatural is no longer a metaphor – it is an ever-present force feeding his corruption. \nHe wanted a kingdom. He awakened something else. \nFeaturing an all-female cast\, and staged inside Makers Central – the rugged Sleepy Hollow country warehouse dedicated to the creation of extraordinary craftsmanship – this immersive production transforms the space into a place of ritual and horror. This Macbeth is relentless in its terror\, cinematic in its atmosphere\, and asks one chilling question: how much of your soul would you sacrifice for power? \nInfluenced as much by horror movies as Shakespearean text\, this is a perfect Macbeth for Halloween in Sleepy Hollow Country! \n$50 General Admission (every ticket includes a free wine or soft drink!)

SUMMARY:Myths & Mysteries of The Octagon House
DESCRIPTION:A Halloween-season guided tour at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nFor generations\, the eight-sided Armour-Stiner Octagon House has inspired whispered local legends\, and this fall its guides are opening the door to them. Myths & Mysteries is an hour-long guided tour through the National Historic Landmark that goes beyond architecture and furnishings to explore the strange stories\, unexplained happenings\, and firsthand accounts left behind by the people who once lived there. Along the way\, history and the otherworldly blur together\, and visitors leave with a new sense of just how unusual this Hudson Valley landmark really is. Want a taste of the lore before you go? Read Ghosts of the Octagon House for the stories of the fragrant spirit and the Lady in White. \nThe experience continues after the tour with Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. Spanning ancient artifacts to contemporary pieces\, it looks at how earlier generations faced death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nIt’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. \nDetails: Tickets are $38 per person and required for every guest. Timed entry varies by day. Because the tour frequently touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

SUMMARY:Live Talks NY presents Andy Serkis
DESCRIPTION:Andy Serkis discussing his memoir\, My Pressures: The Bizarrely True Story of Andy Serkis \nSeats in the Orchestra include a signed copy of My Pressures: The Bizarrely True Story of Andy Serkis. \nAndy Serkis is best known for his portrayal of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy\, a role that brought him international recognition. He went on to play King Kong in Peter Jackson’s King Kong\, Caesar in the Planet of the Apes films\, and Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars\, among others. Additional credits include acclaimed performances in The Prestige\, Black Panther and The Batman\, as well as award-winning television programs such as Andor and Longford. Andy has also established himself as a director with films including Breathe\, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle\, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In 2011\, he co-founded The Imaginarium Studios\, a leading production and performance-capture company. \nBeginning in a childhood split between Ruislip and Baghdad\, Andy Serkis takes us – and his characters – on a journey through the early influences that shaped him: acting mentors\, early roles at a regional repertory theatre\, a passion for mountaineering\, a desire for film-making and the love story with Lorraine Ashbourne that became the foundation of his life. Then\, the call arrives in 1999 that changes everything. Peter Jackson is preparing to make The Lord of the Rings and Andy is asked to audition for the voice of a certain animated character. \nWhat follows is an extraordinary behind-the-scenes journey through the fantastical worlds Andy has helped shape – The Lord of the Rings\, Planet of the Apes\, Black Panther\, Star Wars and more – as he pioneered a new form of performance that would forever redefine the possibilities of cinema. \nIn this memoir\, Andy invites us into a genre-defying conversation between actor and character\, imagination and reality\, and provides an answer to the question: what would Andy’s most iconic characters make of the man that brought them to life?

As a sought-after audio mix engineer\, he showcased his expertise by crafting the stereo and Atmos mixes for the 50th anniversary re-release of Deep Purple’s legendary album “Machine Head” in 2024\, cementing his status as a unique voice in sound engineering. \nBeyond his artistic pursuits\, Dweezil is deeply passionate about music education.

SUMMARY:The Original Knickerbocker Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Original Knickerbocker Tour: Washington Irving & “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”\nMeet the father of the American short story on this one-hour walking tour through the south end of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Along the way you’ll pause at landmarks like the Receiving Vault and the Revolutionary War Memorial\, decode the symbolism hidden in the cemetery’s Victorian statuary and headstones\, and visit the resting place of Irving himself. It’s a fun\, atmospheric way to spend an hour—and the perfect anchor for a day steeped in Sleepy Hollow’s autumn spirit. \nLocation: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery\, South Gate — 430 North Broadway\nParking: Free parking is available inside the gate.\nWhat to expect: This tour covers unpaved\, grassy terrain with a steep hill and some stairs. Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are strongly recommended. Tours run rain or shine; if a tour is canceled for severe weather\, refunds are issued and cancellations are posted at least one hour beforehand.\nDates: Saturdays and Sundays through Thanksgiving weekend from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and 3:00-4:00 p.m. Weekdays in October from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Weekends in October also 11:00 a.m. – 12 noon. \nAdvance tickets required. All tour proceeds support the preservation and restoration of the cemetery grounds through the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Historic Fund\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. \n\nOther Ways to Explore Sleepy Hollow Cemetery \nLooking for a different angle on these historic grounds? Consider these companion experiences: \n\nClassic Daytime Tour — The very same route and stories as the Lantern Tour\, walked by daylight—ideal if you’d like to see more of the landscape.\nThe Classic Evening Lantern Tour — This two-hour evening tour gives you a great overview of why Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is so famous.\nSeptember & October Special Events — Seasonal tours and programs that lean into Sleepy Hollow’s legendary autumn spirit.\n\nSee all Sleepy Hollow Cemetery tours →
