SUMMARY:An Audience with Poe
DESCRIPTION:Sip\, savor\, and shiver with Poe’s darkest tales brought to life through storytelling\, cocktails\, and confections.\nThis fall\, professional storytellers bring to life the “powerful graphic effect” that Washington Irving once praised in Edgar Allan Poe’s writing\, with haunting renditions of The Raven\, The Tell-Tale Heart\, The Black Cat\, and The Masque of the Red Death. We pair the tales with complimentary cocktails or mocktails designed to capture the spirit of the stories. \nThe evening begins in the Library at Historic Hudson Valley\, where visitors enjoy their first drink while standing among the shelves\, listening to a creepy tale. From there\, the experience deepens in an intimate theater setting\, with three more of Poe’s dark masterpieces performed in turn\, as those gathered sip drinks\, nibble biscotti\, and savor a piece of fine chocolate—indulgences to savor in the night’s shadows. \nOctober 3 – November 1\, performances Fridays-Sundays plus Columbus Day Monday. Multiple performances per day\, see organizer’s website for actual times. \nPerformance length: 1 hour and 30 minutes. \n\nRECOMMENDED FOR AGES 14+

SUMMARY:Peek-a-Boo (An Immersive Hudson Valley Haunt)
DESCRIPTION:After a sold-out run in 2024\, River’s Edge Theatre Company is bringing its provocative immersive show Peek-a-Boo back to Bethany Arts Community this October. Inspired by hidden histories of the Hudson Valley\, this one-of-a-kind theatrical experience is brimming with intimate encounters\, voyeuristic thrills\, and deeply human performances. \nWritten by Meghan Covington (Artistic Director of River’s Edge Theatre Company) and directed by Jessica Irons (Artistic Director of Theater O)\, Peek-a-Boo is inspired by the infamous Peek-a-Boo Flats\, a controversial club on Wildey Street in Tarrytown during the early 20th century. The show also weaves in historical figures such as Hulda the Witch\, John Andre\, and Sadie the Goat\, transforming real Hudson Valley lore into an immersive world of intrigue\, danger\, and desire. \nAudience members are invited to step back in time to a 1920s-style vaudeville and burlesque show—complete with dancers\, illicit potions\, and shadowy hallways where secrets are whispered and stories unfold. Guests follow characters through the club’s hidden spaces\, and if they are lucky may even find themselves the sole spectator of an exclusive private scene. \nThis year’s production keeps the beloved characters and core story from 2024 but introduces brand-new secret scenes to surprise returning audiences and keep the narrative alive and evolving. \nWhile Peek-a-Boo offers a tantalizing and spooky night out\, it also reflects River’s Edge Theatre Company’s mission to inspire social change. Beneath the spectacle lie resonant themes of criminal justice reform\, forgiveness\, and second chances. The company will once again partner with Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prisons\, encouraging donations to support their work providing college education\, life skills\, and reentry support to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. \n\n\n\n\n\nPatrons should note that this production is intended for mature audiences only.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Tommy Emmanuel\, CGP
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to welcome the world renowned guitar player Tommy Emmanuel back to Tarrytown Music Hall! Tommy has a Grammy Award\, multiple ARIA Awards and countless accolades\, but nothing means more to Tommy than the three letters Chet Atkins designated at the end of Tommy’s name: C.G.P. The title of Certified Guitar Player was the highest honor Atkins could bestow on another player – a signifier that the recipient had not only mastered the instrument but taken it to new vistas and become a guiding light for the next generation of pickers. Like Tommy\, Chet had never gone to a university\, and the C.G.P. was his version of a PhD or a Doctorate of the guitar. He gave the honor to Tommy and only five other handpicked players. \nAs a songwriter and a performer\, Tommy is a melting pot of influences across genres\, from pop to bluegrass and jazz to rock n’ roll. To him\, music is rhythm and emotion\, all other distinctions are meaningless. Anyone who has seen Tommy play will tell you\, the vocalist is there\, as is the drummer\, the bass player and the rhythm and lead guitarists. In a way that must often be seen to be believed\, Tommy plays all the parts of a full band simultaneously\, his fingers dancing around the fretboard with a dexterity and speed that would seem impossible if you weren’t witnessing it.

SUMMARY:Victorian Tintype Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Back and expanded due to popular demand\, this 2025 Halloween season is the chance to bring home a piece of photographic history. Union Tintype and Hellcat Darkroom will be at Lyndhurst mansion ready to take your portrait using 19th-century photographic technology\, resulting in a one-of-a-kind tintype portrait. Bring home a special memento of your trip to Lyndhurst during the most exciting time of the year.  CAS Photography\, based in San Diego\, CA\, will also be on deck\, selling their incredible reproduction 19th-century frames and paper mats for your photo!Prices below. \nAs this is a traveling studio\, costumes will not be on-site to rent. \nYou must reserve your time slot and choose the size of portrait you want. Each session can accommodate up to 5 individuals. Groups of 6 or larger should purchase multiple\, subsequent time slots. Each slot results in one physical portrait\, so choosing two slots for a large group results in TWO images. Timed entry is available every 10 minutes and will alternate between Union Tintype and the Hellcat Darkroom. Photography must be reserved beforehand\, as there will be no walk-on availability unless there is a no-show. \nCollodion\, or wet-plate photography as we have come to know it today\, was invented in 1851 by a gentleman named Fredrick S. Archer. This process was invented to allow images to be made on glass — multiple copies then could be made from the same plate. In 1856\, the tin-type process was added\, allowing collodion images to be made on thin sheets of metal. \nThe unique thing about this process is that the plate must remain wet before being sensitized and exposed. If the plate dries out before the photographer has time to develop the image\, it will no longer be light-sensitive and will be completely useless. Hence the name “wet plate” process. \nWhen you have a wet plate done\, not only do you receive a beautiful piece of history with your image in it — you also get a short history lesson and witness the process of genuine 19th-century photography.

SUMMARY:Hulda’s Night at Rockefeller State Park Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Hulda’s Night at Rockefeller State Park Preserve is like nothing else you’ve ever experienced. Step back in time on this very special night in the woods of the real Sleepy Hollow! \nYou walk through the gathering gloom\, your path lit only by lanterns. The dark woods surround you as the chill night air settles in. Your group joins a traveler around his fire and listens to local legends (The Storyteller). But your journey has only begun\, and you must not tarry. Up Old Gory Brook Road\, Domine Johannes Ritzema\, Pastor of the Old Dutch Church during the Revolutionary War\, waits to tell you the struggles of holding a congregation together during the time of war and of the witch living nearby threatening his flock (Pastor Ritzema of the Old Dutch Church). \nAs you trek down to the Witch’s Spring trail\, in the distance the magical fairy lights tell you that you are nearing Hulda’s Hut and the “witch” awaits you! Here you sit in hand-carved seats made from the very trees that surround you\, on the site where Hulda’s home may have stood nearly 250 years ago\, and hear her tell her story (Hulda’s Story). \nThe coyotes howl and remind you that you are not alone in these woods as you start back (The Journey Home). There is a war raging on all sides of you and highway robbery is the order of the day. So you must take care\, keep quiet\, and choose your words carefully with any you might meet along the way. \nPLEASE BE ADVISED! This is a moderately strenuous 2 mile hike with some hills that will run between 2 – 2.5 hours. There will be periods of standing for up to 20 minutes at a time. While lit\, the trails can be dark. Please bring a flashlight. \n2025 dates: October 15-18 and October 22-25. There are 2 shows each night: 6pm and 7pm. \nCost: Tickets will go on sale September 1\, 2025 at 10 am. Don’t hesitate\, this event sells out quickly! \nFor reservations and info: info@huldasnight.com\, www.huldasnight.com/tickets
