SUMMARY:Railroad Earth
DESCRIPTION:For over two decades\, Railroad Earth has captivated audiences with gleefully unpredictable live shows and eloquent and elevated studio output. The group introduced its signature sound on 2001’s The Black Bear Sessions. \nBetween selling out hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison\, CO\, they’ve launched the longstanding annual Hangtown Music Festival in Placerville\, CA and Hillberry: The Harvest Moon Festival in Ozark\, AR—both running for a decade-plus. \nSought after by legends\, the John Denver Estate tapped them to put lyrics penned by the late John Denver to music on the 2019 vinyl EP\, Railroad Earth: The John Denver Letters. \nBeyond tallying tens of millions of streams\, the collective have earned widespread critical acclaim from David Fricke of Rolling Stone\, American Songwriter\, Glide Magazine\, and NPR who assured\, “Well-versed in rambling around\, as you might expect from a band named after a Jack Kerouac poem\, the New Jersey-built jam-grass engine Railroad Earth has let no moss grow under its rustic wheels.”

SUMMARY:An Acoustic Evening with Matisyahu
DESCRIPTION:When Matisyahu first started touring to packed clubs more than eleven years ago\, it was prior to the release of Live at Stubbs\, the now Gold record\, and prior to that record’s single “King without a Crown” reaching #1 on the alternative rock radio charts. His performances were a raw expression of his spirituality at that time and were supported by musicians who played a foundation of roots reggae augmented by the energy of a rock trio. Fans latched on quickly for a variety of reasons\, but in August of 2005\, just months after the release of Live at Stubbs\, Matisyahu found himself on stage at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival with the de facto leader of improvisational rock-n-roll; Phish’s front man Trey Anastasio. Many early fans of Matisyahu remember that moment clearly not because of the songs he played in front of the 80\,000 person crowd\, but because of his seemingly unfettered confidence (or perhaps naiveté) in helping lead Trey and his band through an improvisational display of beat boxing and lyrical gymnastics during the two songs performed. It may have been unrefined\, but Matisyahu’s passion for full band improvisation was laid bare. \nFans within the improvisational-jam scene began flocking to Matisyahu’s shows shortly thereafter. “King without a Crown” climbed the charts and Matisyahu’s follow up record Youth was nominated for a Grammy\, but the blessings and curses of mainstream success each took root. While Matisyahu’s bands have always been comprised of serious multidimensional players who have artfully molded the foundations of roots reggae into many genres\, that early; if only a brief display of complete surrender to the music\, seemed in some way to take a back seat. Through his lyrics however\, Matisyahu developed a more personal\, artistic\, and sophisticated way to express the yearning for deep spiritual meaning\, and as his own beliefs opened up to find more variety and depth\, the desire for his performances to match the unpredictable flow of life developed as well.

SUMMARY:Boney James: Slow Burn Tour
DESCRIPTION:For saxophonist and composer Boney James\, these words perfectly describe the music he has crafted for his new Concord Records album\, Slow Burn\, releasing on October 18\, 2024. \n“When I mentioned that phrase to people as a possible title\, they said\, ‘That also refers to your whole career in a way.’ James says with a laugh. “This is my 19th record and I feel like I’m just hitting my stride.”\nSlow Burn is a new high point in a remarkable career that now spans more than three decades and includes a long list of accolades; four GRAMMY nominations\, three NAACP Image Award nominations\, a Soul Train Award for Best Jazz Album and four RIAA Gold Record certifications. In 2009\, Billboard named James one of the Top 3 Contemporary Jazz Artists of the decade. In 2024 Boney became the first ever artist to score 20 number one singles on the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart. \nSlow Burn follows two of the most successful albums of James’ career\, 2020’s Solid and 2022’s Detour which debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart. \nJames is\, of course\, thrilled that his music continues to reach new audiences more than thirty years after he released his debut album\, Trust\, in 1992. “It’s always been my goal to be one of those guys that would just keep doing it at a high level\,” he says\, “and to have that connection with the audience.” \nThat’s what it’s always been about for Boney James. Growing up in New Rochelle\, New York\, James played clarinet in his school band\, but two years later\, he says\, “The teacher needed a sax player. As soon as I switched\, playing it became my favorite thing to do.” \nBy the time he entered his teens\, James was already gigging with bands\, and he turned pro at 19. After years of paying his dues with artists like The Isley Brothers\, Teena Marie and many more\, Boney cut his first album on an independent label\, which led immediately to a major label deal and a string of increasingly successful recordings and nonstop touring. \nNow\, James says\, “I wake up each day and try to play a little better. To quote the cellist Pablo Casals ‘I think I’m making progress.’ I am really proud of my playing on this new record. And I absolutely love the songs and the sound I achieved.” \nSome might say it has a Slow Burn: a deliberate intensity.

SUMMARY:Ghost Tours of Tarrytown Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join this guided tour created by Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk and discover the historic lore and spirits that linger at The Tarrytown Music Hall. \nThe Tarrytown Music Hall was built in 1885 during the Millionaire’s Colony Era when mansions dotted the Hudson Valley landscape and families such as the Rockefellers\, Goulds and Vanderbilts gathered at the Music Hall to participate in its lavish balls\, flower shows and concerts. Since then\, the Music Hall has been a reflection of the human spirit\, mirroring the current events of the town and the rest of the world. In addition to Presidents’ speeches\, it has hosted women’s suffrage rallies and endured several wars\, depressions and pandemics including those of 1918 and 2019. It is a vessel through which many people pass. And some don’t leave . . . \nThe building is an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. Gotham Paranormal Research Society has investigated the Music Hall several times and has consistently detected paranormal activity including intriguing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio files and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings. \nThe 45-minute tour kicks off in the theater lobby and does include climbing stairs and extended periods of standing. Times vary by date. \n2024 dates: September 26. October 2\, 5\, 6\, 8\, 9\, 15\, 16\, 24\, 31. November 5.
