SUMMARY:Dianne Reeves & Romero Lubambo Duo
DESCRIPTION:Five-time Grammy Award winner and jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves brings a breathtaking virtuosity\, improvisational prowess\, and unique jazz and R&B stylings to her performances. Reeves received the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance for three consecutive recordings and won the Best Jazz Vocal Grammy for her feature in the soundtrack of George Clooney’s six-time Academy Award nominated film Good Night\, and Good Luck. The first Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the first vocalist to ever perform at the famed Walt Disney Concert Hall\, in 2018 Reeves was designated a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts—the highest honor the United States bestows on jazz artists. \nIn 1985\, Romero Lubambo came to the United States\, and brought with him a new sound in Brazilian jazz guitar. Romero’s guitar playing unites the styles and rhythms of his native Brazilian musical heritage with his fluency in the American jazz tradition to form a distinctive new sound. After arriving in New York City\, Romero quickly established himself as a “first call” session and touring guitarist who was in demand not only for his authentic Brazilian sound\, but also for his command with a variety of styles. \nLubambo has performed and recorded with many outstanding artists\, including Dianne Reeves\, Billie Eilish\, Angelique Kidjo\, Michael Brecker\, Yo-Yo Ma\, Kathleen Battle\, Diana Krall\, Herbie Mann\, Wynton Marsalis\, Gal Costa\, Kurt Elling\, Kenny Barron\, Luciana Souza\, Cyro Baptista\, Sergio and Odair Assad\, Ivan Lins\, Grover Washington Jr.\, Vernon Reid\, Flora Purim and Airto\, Paquito D’Rivera\, Harry Belafonte\, Larry Coryell\, Gato Barbieri\, Leny Andrade\, James Carter\, Paula Robison\, Dave Weckl\, Jason Miles\, and Cesar Camargo Mariano… among many others.

SUMMARY:Ghost Tours of Tarrytown Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join this guided tour created by Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk and discover the historic lore and spirits that linger at The Tarrytown Music Hall. \nThe Tarrytown Music Hall was built in 1885 during the Millionaire’s Colony Era when mansions dotted the Hudson Valley landscape and families such as the Rockefellers\, Goulds and Vanderbilts gathered at the Music Hall to participate in its lavish balls\, flower shows and concerts. Since then\, the Music Hall has been a reflection of the human spirit\, mirroring the current events of the town and the rest of the world. In addition to Presidents’ speeches\, it has hosted women’s suffrage rallies and endured several wars\, depressions and pandemics including those of 1918 and 2019. It is a vessel through which many people pass. And some don’t leave . . . \nThe building is an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. Gotham Paranormal Research Society has investigated the Music Hall several times and has consistently detected paranormal activity including intriguing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio files and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings. \nThe 45-minute tour kicks off in the theater lobby and does include climbing stairs and extended periods of standing. Times vary by date. \n2024 dates: September 26. October 2\, 5\, 6\, 8\, 9\, 15\, 16\, 24\, 31. November 5.

SUMMARY:Sleepy Hollow Show & Tell
DESCRIPTION:It’s a book release party like no other. Join us for the first ever SLEEPY HOLLOW SHOW & TELL\, featuring spectacular\, strange and spooky tales from our neighbors accompanied by odd objects. This unique event will take place in the historic Christ Episcopal Church San Marcos\, Washington Irving’s own congregation when he lived at nearby Sunnyside at the height of his world renown.  \nSleepy Hollow Show & Tell is also a fundraiser–proceeds will assist the church with their altarpiece restoration project.* Plus\, every ticket gets you a signed copy of the new “best of” edition of Irving’s classic THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW & Other Stories**\, produced here in the Hollow and introduced by local author Krista Madsen.  \n\nReception with light refreshments to follow. Advance ticket reservations encouraged but not required. Tickets and more info here.\n\n*A NOTE ABOUT THE FUNDRAISING: The triptych behind the church’s altar\, a three-paneled oil-on-canvas Last Supper scene\, was painted likely in 1902 by Ida Rosenquest (1864-1940). Ida grew up in Tarrytown on Neperan Street at Rosehill (part of the park now)\, and is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. She was an instructor (of fundamental art courses in the Elementary Dept) at the New York School for Applied Design for Women in New York City. The School was established in 1892 by philanthropist Ellen Dunlop Hopkins as part of the Arts and Crafts movement. It aimed to “afford women practical instruction which will enable them to earn a livelihood by the application of ornamental design to manufacture and the numerous Arts and Crafts.” The school provided courses in book cover design\, stained glass\, textile and wallpaper design\, illustration\, etc.\, with a salesroom for student products. With this triptych\, Ida memorialized her mother Harriet\, a very active member of this congregation\, who had died of diabetes in 1890 at the age of 45. The paintings are in bad condition from age and the elements and require expensive restoration. \n \n**ABOUT THE BOOK: Selected works from Washington Irving’s classic The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon\, Gent. collection (from the 1848 G.P. Putnam edition) include his most popular and enduring tales originally serialized from 1819-20: “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\,” along with a lesser known but equally interesting ghost story\, “The Spectre Bridegroom\,” and two odd essays verging on the fantastical: “The Mutability of Literature” and “The Art of Book-Making.” \nThis slim yet gift-worthy “best of” volume\, produced in that very real yet mythic village of Sleepy Hollow by publisher Sleepy Hollow\, inK.\, begins with a contemporary introduction by local author Krista Madsen\, and ends with blank “sketch pages\,” inviting the reader’s own musings and drawings. The vibrant cover design celebrates two female artists from the second wave of the Hudson River School movement.

November 5.
