SUMMARY:Cemetery Song
DESCRIPTION:Three figures stand in the lamplit darkness\, their voices rising: an old woman\, bent but strong and steel-eyed; a woman in the prime of life – a leader\, a creator\, a mother; and a young girl\, full of curiosity and intelligence. Their song is haunting but joyful. As they sing\, others begin to emerge from behind the gravestones\, their bodies moving in fluid\, graceful motions that evoke both the beauty and the pain of life and death. Welcome to Cemetery Song! \nCemetery Song is a joyous celebration of Life and Death and the place of the cemetery in our lives.  A unique combination of music\, song\, poetry\, spoken word and dance\, Cemetery Song features Westchester artists\, musicians\, actors and dancers\, mixing songs and poems about death and mourning\, birth and celebration to create startling and unforgettable ideas and breathtaking images. \nCemetery Song evokes the vibrancy of life and the fleeting nature of mortality\, all at once. How? \nTHROUGH SONG: Cemetery Song will feature original songs by singer/songwriters Emma Freeman\, Jonah Scott\, Sierra Scott\, Judy Kass and The Sweet Vermouths and others! \nTHROUGH DANCE: Cemetery Song will feature performers from Rivertown Dance Academy. \nTHROUGH POETRY AND SPOKEN WORD: Cemetery Song will feature a troupe of professional actors bringing poetry\, scenes and spoken word to life for our audiences. \nAnywhere Theatre Company is working with the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery to bring to life (and death!) this vivid mixture of the best of Westchester culture! Cemetery Song is a celebration of Life in all its aspects\, from beginning to end! \nPlease note this is a seated performance\, not a walking tour. The event will be held outdoors\, weather permitting\, but indoors in the case of rain.

SUMMARY:Sleepy Hollow 150th Anniversary Car Show
DESCRIPTION:This event offers a delightful blend of nostalgia and respect for Sleepy Hollow’s automotive heritage\, featuring an impressive array of classic vehicles that have left an indelible mark on the village’s identity. Alongside classic\, antique\, and muscle cars\, families can enjoy food trucks\, music\, and a bouncy castle. Rain date: May 19th. \n\nAutomobile manufacturing was a staple of the local economy for nearly a century\, ending its run in 1996. The Stanley Motor Carriage Company opened a plant on Kingsland Point in the 1890s to produce its steam powered “Stanley Steamer” automobiles. On the other side of the mouth of the Pocantico River was a factory of Ingersoll-Rand Drill Company (see postcard above\, Rand is on the bottom half with the red water tower). Sometime in the early 20th century the properties came under control of the Maxwell-Briscoe Company\, which manufactured the Maxwell line of automobiles. \nAfter a 1907 fire at the North Tarrytown plant\, Maxwell-Briscoe moved the bulk of its operations to Indiana. Financially stretched to the breaking point in a recession following World War I\, Maxwell-Briscoe was taken over by Walter Chrysler in 1921. With the formation of the Chrysler Corporation in 1925\, the Maxwell line was phased out. Walter Chrysler\, however\, remains a fixture in Sleepy Hollow to this day—his permanent residence is a large mausoleum in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. \nChevrolet\, not yet a part of General Motors\, took over part of the facility alongside Maxwell in 1914. Chevy was integrated into GM in 1918 which operated the plant until June 1996. Over the decades the plant expanded by filling in the bay where the Pocantico River emptied into the Hudson and by acquiring part of the adjoining county park.

SUMMARY:The Machine Performs Pink Floyd
DESCRIPTION:The Machine has forged a 30+ year reputation of extending the musical legacy of Pink Floyd. The New York-based quartet performs a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire\, complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems. With stellar musicianship and passionate delivery\, The Machine explores collective improvisation rivaling that of an early 1970’s Pink Floyd\, while their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays and lighting continues The Floyd spirit of the 1980’s. The band is also known for recreating entire albums as a part of their show\, accepting requests from fans\, and for taking an A – Z approach in which one song is played for every letter of the alphabet. \nThe Machine has sold out theaters\, premier showcase rooms and casinos across North America\, Europe and Asia\, performed at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Riverbend\, and Gathering of the Vibes\, and shared the stage with full symphony orchestras\, including the Atlanta\, Detroit\, Pittsburgh\, Jacksonville\, Charlotte and San Diego Symphonies\, as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic. The band features founding member Tahrah Cohen (drums)\, longtime bandmates Scott Chasolen (keys\, vocals) and Ryan Ball (guitar\, vocals)\, and newest member Chris DeAngelis (bass\, lead vocals). The Machine continues on to celebrate the music of Pink Floyd and to honor the life of Joe Pascarell\, who co-founded the band with Tahrah in 1988.

SUMMARY:The Pinkster Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join Philipsburg Manor for a day filled with art\, poetry\, live music\, dance\, and storytelling that celebrates and commemorates the region’s African American history and culture. \nHear a spoken word performance\, dance to the beat of African kora\, observe an artist in process\, participate in a call-and-response song\, and more. \nBrought to the New World by the Dutch\, Pinkster became an important holiday for enslaved Africans\, who celebrated with dance\, music\, storytelling\, and games. Pinkster provided one of the few opportunities for enslaved men and women to travel to family members. It was a time of celebration\, but the condition of enslavement was still the harsh reality of life. \nPhilipsburg Manor began celebrating Pinkster in 1977\, making this event the longest-running recreation of Pinkster in North America. \nThe Pinkster Festival is curated by Malik Work and presented by Historic Hudson Valley.
