SUMMARY:Classic Daytime Cemetery Tour
DESCRIPTION:Soak up the beauty of this 174-year old cemetery while your guide regales you with stories of the fascinating people resting here in peace. \nThis two-hour daytime walk is the perfect way “to have a colloquy among the tombs” as Washington Irving\, famous author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”\, did himself back in 1849. \nYou’ll pay homage to the great author\, stop by some of the most interesting monuments in the old section before heading north to visit the final resting places of two-term Chicago Mayor Walter Gurnee\, steel titan Andrew Carnegie\, oilman William Rockefeller\, two people vital to the success of Wells Fargo and American Express\, and much more. Admire beautiful art\, architecture and cool cemetery symbolism along the way.  This tour gives a great overview of why Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is so famous. \nPlease note that the Classic Daytime Tour is the same route as the Classic Evening Lantern tour. The content is exactly the same – it just starts in a different location. \nDates: Every Saturday and Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 p.m in September. In October and November also 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon through Thanksgiving weekend.

SUMMARY:Exhibit: Upstate Art Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Visit the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center at Pocantico (DR Center) and view Inspired Encounters: Women Artists and the Legacies of Modern Art\, the DR Center’s inaugural exhibition\, which explores ideas of intergenerational influence and innovation among visual artists working in a range of practices. \nThis event is part of Upstate Art Weekend (UPAW)\, an annual event celebrating the cultural vibrancy of upstate New York through events and open exhibitions. The Pocantico Center joins art organizations\, galleries\, and museums to participate in UPAW for the first time. \nInspired Encounters pairs pieces by a dozen groundbreaking women artists of the postwar period with new commissions of contemporary art. It draws primarily from the permanent collection of modern art at Kykuit\, the former Rockefeller family home that now operates as a historic house museum on The Pocantico Center campus. \nArtists Sonya Clark\, Maren Hassinger\, Elana Herzog\, Melissa Meyer\, Fanny Sanín\, Barbara Takenaga\, and Kay WalkingStick were asked to respond to the museum and grounds at Pocantico with artwork for the exhibition. The result is a series of inspired encounters that frames the modern art of the postwar period as relevant\, generative\, and open to myriad creative possibilities.

SUMMARY:Alex Bugnon
DESCRIPTION:Alex Bugnon has been a prolific\, energetic force on the contemporary music scene for almost three decades. A renowned musician\, composer and bandleader\, Bugnon hales from the picturesque town of Caux\, Switzerland – 4 miles above Montreux\, site of the world famous Jazz Festival. No doubt\, the annual convergence in his hometown and in his own home\, of some of music’s most illustrious names played a role in his decision to pursue a musical career\, as did his early friendship with Herbie Hancock. The fact that his uncle was the legendary Donald Byrd only served to further his decision. \nOver almost 3 decades\, Alex Bugnon has built a strong and loyal fan base across the Unites States and around the world. His tour schedule has never eased\, even besting the great Dizzy Gillespie’s record of appearances at Washington\, D.C.’s Blues Alley. Last year marked Alex’s 20th consecutive year’s appearance at the legendary venue! He makes it a point of never missing a day of piano practice or writing. \nIf he is not composing\, he is listening to his favorite artists and biggest influences: Herbie Hancock\, McCoy Tyner\, Red Garland\, Ahmad Jamal\, Kenny Kirkland\, Mulgrew Miller\, Wynton Kelly\, Joe Sample\, George Duke and Keith Jarrett. \n\nJazz Forum\, Westchester County’s only dedicated jazz club\, is tucked away on a side street in downtown Tarrytown. Drawing musicians from around the world\, the club strives to make music affordable and accessible. Headline jazz artists perform on Friday and Saturday nights with two sets per night at 7 and 9:30 pm. Two Sunday afternoon sets at 4 pm and 6 pm often feature Brazilian and Latin jazz. Check the club’s website for each weekend’s performer list and to purchase tickets. Many shows sell out in advance\, get yours early. \nThe Jazz Forum offers a full menu including entrées\, dinner plates\, cured meats and cheese\, tapenades and house-made desserts. It has a full bar and features fine Italian wines\, local draft beers and specialty cocktails. The food and drink menu is available for all Friday\, Saturday and Sunday shows. \nJazz Forum also produces a popular series of outdoor summer concerts at five Hudson River locations: Lyndhurst mansion\, Tarrytown’s Pierson Park\, Sleepy Hollow’s Horan’s Landing Park\, Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park\, and Henry Gourdine Park in Ossining.
