SUMMARY:Octagon House Classic Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, a registered National Historic Landmark\, was created as a summer retreat by tea-importer Joseph Stiner. Its shape was based on the theories of Orson Squire Fowler\, a phrenologist\, who believed octagonal houses enclosed more space\, allowed the sun in at all times\, and permitted more views into the landscape. \nThe tour includes a brief history of specimen plants original to the property\, the carefully restored Lord and Burnham greenhouse\, the wonderfully romantic foxglove garden\, (shaped in the exact size and footprint of the house itself!)\, and the charming Octagonal birdhouse\, (a scaled-down replica of the house). Visitors will also experience the house’s wrap-around veranda that offers 360-degree views of the lush landscape\, as well as particular architectural details which relate specifically to native plants and foliage of the grounds. Finally\, the tour will continue inside the house with an interior tour of the first\, second and third floors\, which retain their magnificent ornamentation and furnishings. \nTimed tours only\, last tour of the day starts at 4 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. \nThe Octagon House is a private residence. In exchange for the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind historic home\, all visitors must follow house rules.

SUMMARY:Glass Pumpkin Patch
DESCRIPTION:The village of Sleepy Hollow welcomes glass artist Gregory Tomb this season. Greg has partnered with the Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley to create the inaugural Glass Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser of Sleepy Hollow\, October 14-16\, 2022 in Kingsland Point Park. \nThis festive event will showcase over 1\,000 whimsical\, vibrantly colored glass pumpkins handmade by Gregory Tomb\, a nationally acclaimed glass artist known for his unique\, intricate designs. These one-of-a-kind works of art will be available for purchase. Proceeds support the Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley which has granted the wishes of more than 3\,000 children in the Hudson Valley region with critical illnesses. \nArtist Gregory Tomb has been fascinated by glass art since childhood\, when road trips with his family would often include visits to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning\, N.Y. After studying glassblowing as an art student at Hartwick College\, Tomb explored a variety of personal and professional interests — but glass art always remained his passion. He honed his craft as a production glassblower in a factory for world-renowned glass maker Simon Pearce. \nTomb has been awarded “best in glass” and served as the featured artist at the Nassau County Museum of Art\, the Hampton Fine Art Festival\, the Stuart Art Festival and the Scottsdale Artfest. His colorful creations have also been featured in numerous museums and magazines nationwide. \nCurrently\, Tomb is the summer Artist-in-Residence for Johnsburg\, NY\, a small town in the Adirondacks. He provides glassblowing experiences for all ages each season and shares his art in the gallery along the Hudson River. For more information about the artist and his glass pumpkin patches visit https://www.gregorytglass.com \nThis is a free event although a parking fee at Kingsland Point Park will apply.

SUMMARY:The Legend - Cirque Theatre Performance
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time. It’s the 1800’s. Hear the clamoring metal horseshoes click across cobblestone roads in this dark Sleepy Hollow tale. The LEGEND is a simmering adaptation of Washington Irving’s iconic ghost story\, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Audiences will be treated to a cirque/theatre noir production with narration by Washington Irving himself – in hologram form\, commemorating the 200-year anniversary of\, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!” \nThe LEGEND is a new\, total immersive experience with the groundbreaking use of holograms of Washington Irving and the Headless Horseman\, combined with live action circus performers to tell the story. \nAbout The LEGEND\nSet in Sleepy Hollow and ‘Tarry Town’ in the early 1800s\, Irving returns to present-day to tell us what he really meant by ‘the legend.’ The story follows schoolteacher Ichabod Crane (played by Justin Durham – hand balancer and straps artist) who has\, of late\, been down on his luck but finds adventure when he accepts an invitation to teach the children of Sleepy Hollow. \nEverything changes when the beautiful heiress of the Van Tassel fortune\, Katrina Van Tassel (played by fourth generation circus artist Zoë Heywood)\, enters the ballroom of her father’s holiday party by performing a seductive aerial ballet on silks. Crane is stricken by his good fortune and believes he has the savoir faire to win her hand (and her father’s money). \nWhen Katrina’s assumed beau\, Brom Bones (Mickey Lonsdale – comedic actor and acrobatic dancer)\, sees Katrina’s interest in Crane\, the game is afoot! Crane finds himself involved in what may become a deadly love triangle\, spurred by the practical (and perhaps deadly) jokes of Brom Bones. What neither suitor realizes is that Katrina is in possession of a ‘very particular set of skills’ and can summon ‘the Dark Spirit’ (played by Doug Stewart of Cirque Us) with incantations reminiscent of ‘The Exorcist.’ The intrigue mounts: is the ‘Dark Spirit’ the ghostly and ghastly Headless Horseman villagers see at night in pursuit of his prey? Or is it something else that causes Crane to vanish suddenly one night in an epic battle between ‘light’ and ‘dark’? \nPerformed by Westchester Circus Arts. Brought to you by The Village of Sleepy Hollow.

SUMMARY:Ghost Tours of Tarrytown Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join this guided tour created by Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk\, and discover the historic lore and spirits that linger here at The Tarrytown Music Hall. \nThe Tarrytown Music Hall was built in 1885 during the Millionaire’s Colony Era when mansions dotted the Hudson Valley landscape and families such as the Rockefellers\, Goulds and Vanderbilts gathered at the Music Hall to participate in its lavish balls\, flower shows and concerts. Since then\, the Music Hall has been a reflection of the human spirit\, mirroring the current events of the town and the rest of the world. In addition to Presidents’ speeches\, it has hosted women’s suffrage rallies and endured several wars\, depressions and pandemics including those of 1918 and 2019. It is a vessel through which many people pass. And some don’t leave . . . \nThe building is an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. Gotham Paranormal Research Society has investigated the Music Hall several times and has consistently detected paranormal activity including intriguing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio files and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings. \nTimes vary by date. Tours will be led by either Jonathan Kruk or Chant Macleod.
