SUMMARY:Octagon House Myths and Mysteries Tour
DESCRIPTION:18 miles north of New York City\, high on a bank along The Hudson River sits The Armour-Stiner (Octagon) House. Built in 1860\, this enigmatic\, eight-sided\, domed landmark is the pride of the Village of Irvington\, in the heart of “Sleepy Hollow Country.” During the month of October\, The Octagon House is pleased to announce a special ‘Myths and Mysteries’ tour to celebrate the Halloween season. \nFor years\, local rumors have swirled around The Octagon House\, implying its connection to the spirit world. Join us as we delve into the myths and mysteries of the house—from its unique dome shape resembling an ancient Roman temple\, to its octagonal floor plan rooted in 19th century Phrenology\, to speculations of a resident ghost\, we’ll share stories from the current owners who have described their experiences of the house as something otherworldly. Come hear tales of the unexplained and uncanny events that have occurred in this magical house while experiencing the delight of this meticulously restored architectural wonder. \nThe Octagon House is very much a private family home. Access to the house and grounds is available ONLY to ticket holders during the time and date assigned.

SUMMARY:Napoleon Dynamite - Film Screening & Conversation with Jon Heder\, Efren Ramirez & Jon Gries
DESCRIPTION:This unique evening includes a full screening of “Napoleon Dynamite” followed by a lively\, freewheeling\, moderated discussion with fan-favorite cast members; Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite)\, Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico). \nThe beloved indie classic “Napoleon Dynamite” was made almost almost 20 years ago. Since then much has changed; but the characters\, as enduring as they are endearing\, stay in our hearts. Appealing to the inner-teenager in each of us\, the story\, and more importantly the dialogue\,makes “Napoleon Dynamite” one of the most quoted movies of our time. Napoleon Dynamite makes us laugh – and laugh hard – over and over again.

SUMMARY:Octagon House Classic Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, a registered National Historic Landmark\, was created as a summer retreat by tea-importer Joseph Stiner. Its shape was based on the theories of Orson Squire Fowler\, a phrenologist\, who believed octagonal houses enclosed more space\, allowed the sun in at all times\, and permitted more views into the landscape. \nThe tour includes a brief history of specimen plants original to the property\, the carefully restored Lord and Burnham greenhouse\, the wonderfully romantic foxglove garden\, (shaped in the exact size and footprint of the house itself!)\, and the charming Octagonal birdhouse\, (a scaled-down replica of the house). Visitors will also experience the house’s wrap-around veranda that offers 360-degree views of the lush landscape\, as well as particular architectural details which relate specifically to native plants and foliage of the grounds. Finally\, the tour will continue inside the house with an interior tour of the first\, second and third floors\, which retain their magnificent ornamentation and furnishings. \nTimed tours only\, last tour of the day starts at 4 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. \nThe Octagon House is a private residence. In exchange for the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind historic home\, all visitors must follow house rules.
