SUMMARY:Birding at Rockefeller State Park Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Rockefeller State Park Preserve together with adjoining private lands is one of the largest undeveloped tracts of land in Westchester County. With its mix of woodlands\, fields\, wetlands and a lake\, the Preserve supports a diversity of species\, especially birds. Come find out why the National Audubon Society has designated this an Important Bird Area. A hint: nearly 200 bird species have been spotted here! Our local Audubon chapter\, Saw Mill River Audubon\, regularly leads small group bird walks here. Group sizes are limited\, registration is required. They are good for all levels of birding experience and beginners are very welcome! Walks are for adults and youth age 8 or older. Let the society know in advance if you want to borrow binoculars by emailing them at: office@sawmillriveraudubon.org

SUMMARY:Octagon House Classic Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, a registered National Historic Landmark\, was created as a summer retreat by tea-importer Joseph Stiner. Its shape was based on the theories of Orson Squire Fowler\, a phrenologist\, who believed octagonal houses enclosed more space\, allowed the sun in at all times\, and permitted more views into the landscape. \nThe tour includes a brief history of specimen plants original to the property\, the carefully restored Lord and Burnham greenhouse\, the wonderfully romantic foxglove garden\, (shaped in the exact size and footprint of the house itself!)\, and the charming Octagonal birdhouse\, (a scaled-down replica of the house). Visitors will also experience the house’s wrap-around veranda that offers 360-degree views of the lush landscape\, as well as particular architectural details which relate specifically to native plants and foliage of the grounds. Finally\, the tour will continue inside the house with an interior tour of the first\, second and third floors\, which retain their magnificent ornamentation and furnishings. \nTimed tours only\, last tour of the day starts at 4 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. \nThe Octagon House is a private residence. In exchange for the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind historic home\, all visitors must follow house rules.

SUMMARY:Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes
DESCRIPTION:In a business where success is defined as getting a second single and longevity measured in nanoseconds\, simply surviving for thirty-plus years is a rare accomplishment. But Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes have not only survived\, they have flourished: more than thirty albums\, several Eps and a box set; thousands of live performances around the globe; a legion of dedicated and enthusiastic fans; dozens of classic songs; a release named by Rolling Stone one of the “top 100 albums of the 70s and 80s.” \n\n\nSouthside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes emerged from the New Jersey shore scene in 1974\, and though they carried over a significant influence (and some key personnel) from Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band\, the Jukes evolved as more of a white R&B horn band in the Memphis Stax Records tradition. Organized by singer John Lyon\, guitarist/songwriter Steve Van Zandt (who decamped for the E Street Band in 1975\, but continued to produce\, manage\, and write songs for the Jukes) and Richie Rosenberg\, the band is well known for high-energy shows and no-holds-barred songs\, including “I Don’t Wanna Go Home\,” “Havin’ a Party\,” “The Fever\,” “Talk to Me\,” “Trapped Again\,” and “This Time It’s For Real.” \nStill tinged with the exuberant rhythm and blues feel that is the Jukes’ trademark\, and loaded with the driving sound of the legendary Jukes horn section\, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes continue to expound their signature Jersey Shore sound – all for the sheer.
