SUMMARY:Melissa Etheridge - One Way Out Tour
DESCRIPTION:Melissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album\, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. For several years\, her popularity grew around such memorable originals as “Bring Me Some Water\,” “No Souvenirs” and “Ain’t It Heavy\,” for which she won a Grammy® in 1992. Etheridge hit her commercial and artistic stride with her fourth album\, Yes I Am (1993). The collection featured the massive hits\, “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window\,” a searing song of longing that brought Etheridge her second Grammy® Award for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1995\, Etheridge issued her highest charting album\, Your Little Secret\, which was distinguished by the hit single\, “I Want to Come Over.” Her astounding success that year led to Etheridge receiving the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996. \n\nKnown for her confessional lyrics and raspy\, smoky vocals\, Etheridge has remained one of America’s favorite female singer-songwriters for more than two decades. In February 2007\, Melissa Etheridge celebrated a career milestone with a victory in the “Best Song” category at the Academy® Awards for “I Need to Wake Up\,” written for the Al Gore documentary on global warming\, An Inconvenient Truth. As a performer and songwriter\, Etheridge has shown herself to be an artist who has never allowed “inconvenient truths” to keep her down. Earlier in her recording career\, Etheridge acknowledged her sexual orientation when it was considered less than prudent to do so. In October 2004\, Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer\, a health battle that\, with her typical tenacity\, she won. Despite losing her hair from chemotherapy\, Etheridge appeared on the 2005 Grammy® telecast to sing “Piece of My Heart” in tribute to Janis Joplin. By doing so she gave hope to many women afflicted with the disease \nOn October 7\, 2016 Melissa Etheridge released Memphis Rock & Soul\, her first album since 2014’s critically lauded This Is M.E. Recorded at Royal Studios in Memphis\, the album received stellar reviews from the likes of Entertainment Weekly\, Parade\, Rolling Stone\, American Songwriter and more. She followed that up with the release of The Medicine Show in April\, 2019. For The Medicine Show\, Melissa reunited with celebrated producer John Shanks and sounds as rousing as ever\, bringing a new level of artistry to her 15th studio recording. The Medicine Show deals with universal themes of renewal\, reconciliation\, reckoning\, compassion and\, most profoundly\, healing. \nIn June of 2020\, Etheridge launched her own live streaming subscription and single ticket concert platform\, Etheridge TV. Etheridge plays five unique shows Tuesday-Saturday at 3:00 p.m. PT and has done over 200 live streams in 2020. \nOn September 17\, 2021\, Melissa released a new album called One Way Out. The 9-track album is a collection of songs Etheridge wrote in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s that never made the cut….until now! The time is finally right\, and fans will finally get a deeper glimpse to who Melissa was then.

SUMMARY:Octagon House Classic Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, a registered National Historic Landmark\, was created as a summer retreat by tea-importer Joseph Stiner. Its shape was based on the theories of Orson Squire Fowler\, a phrenologist\, who believed octagonal houses enclosed more space\, allowed the sun in at all times\, and permitted more views into the landscape. \nThe tour includes a brief history of specimen plants original to the property\, the carefully restored Lord and Burnham greenhouse\, the wonderfully romantic foxglove garden\, (shaped in the exact size and footprint of the house itself!)\, and the charming Octagonal birdhouse\, (a scaled-down replica of the house). Visitors will also experience the house’s wrap-around veranda that offers 360-degree views of the lush landscape\, as well as particular architectural details which relate specifically to native plants and foliage of the grounds. Finally\, the tour will continue inside the house with an interior tour of the first\, second and third floors\, which retain their magnificent ornamentation and furnishings. \nTimed tours only\, last tour of the day starts at 4 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. \nThe Octagon House is a private residence. In exchange for the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind historic home\, all visitors must follow house rules.

SUMMARY:Monty Alexander Trio
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the legendary jazz pianist Monty Alexander perform at Tarrytown’s Jazz Forum! \nFifty-five years after he moved to the United States from Kingston\, Jamaica\, his home town\, Monty Alexander is an American classic\, touring the world relentlessly with various projects\, delighting a global audience drawn to his vibrant personality and soulful message. His spirited conception is one informed by the timeless verities: endless melody-making\, effervescent grooves\, sophisticated voicings\, a romantic spirit\, and a consistent predisposition\, as Alexander accurately states\, “to build up the heat and kick up a storm.” \nIn the course of any given performance\, Alexander applies those aesthetics to repertoire spanning a broad range of jazz and Jamaican musical expression—the American songbook and the blues\, gospel and bebop\, calypso and reggae. Like his “eternal inspiration\,” Erroll Garner\, Alexander—cited as the fifth greatest jazz pianist ever in The Fifty Greatest Jazz Piano Players of All Time (Hal Leonard Publishing) and mentioned in Robert Doerschuk’s 88: The Giants of Jazz Piano—gives the hardcore-jazz-obsessed much to dig into while also communicating the message to the squarest “civilian.” \nBorn on D-Day\, June 6\, 1944\, Alexander was playing Christmas carols by ear at 4\, entertaining neighbors and relatives by 5\, taking his first piano lessons at 6. He resisted formal instruction\, but still\, growing up in Kingston\, absorbed all the musical flavors that comprise his mature sonic palette. “I soaked up everything—the calypso band playing at the swimming pool in the country\, local guys at jam sessions who wished they were Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis\, a dance band playing Jamaican melodies\, songs that Belafonte would have sung\,” he recalls. When Alexander was 9\, his father\, a Kingston merchant\, brought him to hear and play for the legendary pianist Eddie Heywood. At 10\, he saw Nat “King” Cole play at Kingston’s Carib Theater\, the same venue where\, at 13\, he heard a concert featuring Louis Armstrong. \n

SUMMARY:Nick Lowe’s Quality Rock & Roll Review Starring Los Straitjackets
DESCRIPTION:Nick Lowe has made his mark as a producer (Elvis Costello-Graham Parker-Pretenders-The Damned)\, songwriter of at least three songs you know by heart\, short-lived career as a pop star\, and a lengthy term as a musicians’ musician. But in his current ‘second act’ as a silver-haired\, tender-hearted but sharp-tongued singer-songwriter\, he has no equal. Starting with 1995′s ‘The Impossible Bird’ through to 2011′s ‘The Old Magic\,’ Nick has turned out a fantastic string of albums\, each one devised in his West London home\, and recorded with a core of musicians who possess the same veteran savvy. Lowe brings wit and understated excellence to every performance\, leading Ben Ratliff of the New York Times to describe his live show as “elegant and nearly devastating.” His new 4 song EP “Tokyo Bay” features Los Straitjackets as his backing band \n\n\nLos Straitjackets are the leading practitioners of the lost art of the guitar instrumental. Using the music of the Ventures\, The Shadows\, and with Link Wray and Dick Dale as a jumping off point\, the band has taken their unique\, high energy brand of original rock & roll around the world. Clad in their trademark Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling masks\, the “Jackets” have delivered their trademark guitar licks to 16 albums\, thousands of concerts and dozens of films and TV shows. \nTheir most recent album “What’s So Funny ‘Bout Peace Love & Los Straitjackets” consists of instrumental covers of Nick Lowe Songs.
