SUMMARY:An Evening with Chris Thile
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed Grammy Award-winning mandolinist\, singer\, songwriter\, composer\, and MacArthur Fellow recipient of the prestigious “Genius Grant”\, Chris Thile is a multifaceted musical talent\, described by The Guardian as “that rare being: an all-round musician\,” and hailed by NPR as a “genre-defying musical genius.” Thile is a founding member of the highly influential string bands Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek\, and has collaborated with countless luminaries from Yo-Yo Ma to Fiona Apple to Brad Mehldau. \nFor four years\, Thile hosted public radio favorite Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly known as A Prairie Home Companion). With his broad outlook\, Thile creates a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike\, giving the listener “one joyous arc\, with the linear melody and vertical harmony blurring into a single web of gossamer beauty” (New York Times). Over the last year\, Thile has been touring with Nickel Creek in support of the critically acclaimed 2023 release Celebrants\, and captivating audiences with a playfully ambitious biographical composition entitled ATTENTION! (a narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra). \nThe wide-ranging program of Thile’s 2025-2026 solo performances will feature selections from his acclaimed solo recordings of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas – including the upcoming second volume out this autumn – alongside his signature mix of classical\, folk and improvisational brilliance.

SUMMARY:Graham Nash - Live on Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:Graham Nash will perform a career-spanning retrospective of his six decades of contributions to contemporary music. Joined by Todd Caldwell (keyboards)\, Adam Minkoff (bass\, drums\, guitar\, and vocals)\, and Zack Djanikian (guitar\, bass\, drums\, and vocals)\, Nash will take the audience on a musical journey that encompasses his years with The Hollies\, CSN\, CSNY\, and his beloved solo efforts. \nNash is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee\, with Crosby\, Stills\, and Nash\, and with the Hollies. He was also inducted twice into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame\, as a solo artist and with CSN\, and he is a GRAMMY Award winner. \nTowering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his multi-faceted career stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of the past half-century. His remarkable body of work\, beginning with his contributions to the Hollies opus\, including “On a Carousel” and “Carrie Anne\,” continues all the way to Now (2023)\, his most recent solo album. \nThe original classic union of Crosby\, Stills & Nash (& Young) lasted but twenty months. Yet their songs are lightning rods embedded in our DNA\, starting with Nash’s “Marrakesh Express\,” and “Lady of the Island\,” from the first Crosby\, Stills & Nash LP (1969)\, and “Teach Your Children” and “Our House” on CSNY’s Déjà Vu (1970). \nNash’s solo career debuted with Songs For Beginners (1971)\, which included “Chicago/We Can Change the World” and “Military Madness” and others. In addition to his string of solo albums\, he has performed and recorded with David Crosby as Crosby/Nash. Their eponymously titled Graham Nash/David Crosby (1972) is bookended by Nash’s “Southbound Train” and “Immigration Man”.

SUMMARY:GENIUS: String Quintet in C major\, Franz Schubert
DESCRIPTION:American Classical Orchestra \nGENIUS: String Quintet in C major\, Franz Schubert \nSchubert’s brilliant String Quintet in C major\, the composer’s final instrumental work\, was completed just two months before his death at the age of thirty-one\, when—despite failing health——the composer was at the height of his musical powers. Ignored at the time\, the Quintet is now widely hailed as not only the composer’s finest chamber piece\, but one of the greatest pieces of chamber music of all time. \nAmong other qualities\, the work is notable for its instrumentation. Instead of bringing in a second viola\, a more conventional choice for the era’s string quintets\, Schubert uses a second cello. This imbues the Quintet with rare\, lower-register richness and depth on which he builds surprising key changes\, innovative harmonic developments and gorgeous melodic lines that effect searing\, almost painful\, beauty that bespeaks the composer’s genius. \nGiven the timing of completion\, one wonders if Schubert sensed he might not live to hear the work publicly performed. When Schubert submitted it to his publisher\, along with three piano sonatas\, his tone was deferential. Please let me know\, he wrote\, if “any of these works commend themselves to you.” Sadly the Quintet in C major did not. His publisher responded only with requests for more of the Lieder and piano music Schubert was better known for. After his death\, Schubert’s final chamber work would bounce between publishers before a first public performance in 1850 (twenty-two years after his death) and its publication three years later. Only over time would his Quintet in C major be recognized as a masterpiece.
