SUMMARY:Darlene Love - Love for the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:Rolling Stone Magazine has proclaimed Darlene Love to be “one of the greatest singers of all time” and that certainly rings true\, but perhaps Paul Shaffer says it even more concisely: “Darlene Love is Rock N’ Roll!” – which was made official when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bette Midler\, a great fan of her work\, in 2011. During the celebration\, the two ladies enjoyed performing He’s A Rebel together and as part of the festivities\, Darlene also sang He’s A Fine\, Fine Boy backed by another distinguished fan\, Bruce Springsteen. \nAt the Academy Awards\, Darlene sang her powerful acceptance speech on behalf of all of the performers in the winning film “Twenty Feet From Stardom.” As she raised the Oscar\, the entire house stood with a cheering ovation\, led by the wildly applauding Bill Murray. It was another special moment in a great career. A Grammy award soon followed for the soundtrack of the film. \nHer Billboard hits include: He’s A Rebel\, The Boy I’m Gonna Marry\, Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets Home\, He’s Sure the Boy I Love and the #1 holiday classic Christmas Baby (Please Come Home)\, a song that she performed annually with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Symphony Orchestra on The Late Show With David Letterman for some 29 years until Letterman retired. \nTo continue this long standing tradition\, Darlene performs a number of special Christmas shows every year and continues to enchant her fans with the Christmas spirit.

SUMMARY:The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook Talk
DESCRIPTION:Although most Americans have heard of sugar plums thanks to the famous holiday poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore\, many have likely never have had the pleasure of tasting one of these luxuries\, or even know what they really are (hint: they are not sugar-dusted plums). This is because sugar plums are one of the Gilded Age era holiday sweets that got eclipsed as America moved into the twentieth century. But The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook will bridge the past and present\, bringing back sugar plums and other confections not typically found in modern cookbooks\, while revisiting some beloved favorites. \nWith origins that date back to the nineteenth century and even earlier\, the recipes in The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook have been adapted for today’s ingredients and appliances\, allowing cooks to recreate them in their own modern kitchens. Each recipe will provide a colorful glimpse into the era\, featuring the fascinating history behind each cookie\, its ingredients and baking methods. There will also be sidebars throughout\, offering tidbits of Christmas lore of the era. \nMeet the author\, Becky Libourel Diamond\, and learn a bit more about these bygone recipes form the Gilded Age! She will also be bringing samples of her recipes from the book for the audience to try. \nTo add to the Gilded Age feel\, the photographs for this book were taken inside of the Lyndhurst Mansion! These recipes would not have been out of place amongst the families that called Lyndhurst home!
