SUMMARY:An Audience with Poe
DESCRIPTION:Sip\, savor\, and shiver with Poe’s darkest tales brought to life through storytelling\, cocktails\, and confections.\nProfessional storytellers bring to life the “powerful graphic effect” that Washington Irving once praised in Edgar Allan Poe’s writing\, with haunting renditions of The Raven\, The Tell-Tale Heart\, The Black Cat\, and The Masque of the Red Death. We pair the tales with complimentary cocktails or mocktails designed to capture the spirit of the stories. \nThe evening begins in the Library at Historic Hudson Valley\, where visitors enjoy their first drink while standing among the shelves\, listening to a creepy tale. From there\, the experience deepens in an intimate theater setting\, with three more of Poe’s dark masterpieces performed in turn\, as those gathered sip drinks and enjoy small treats—indulgences to savor in the night’s shadows. \nOctober 3\, 9\, 11\, 16\, 18\, 23\, 25\, 30\n3\, 5\, 7pm \nOctober 10\, 17\, 24\, 31\n1:30\, 3:30\, 6\, 8pm \nRECOMMENDED FOR AGES 16+ \nAdvance Tickets Only. Not Sold on Site.

SUMMARY:The Lady in White
DESCRIPTION:An immersive ghost story tour at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nSome ghost stories are told about a house. This one is performed inside it. In The Lady in White\, guests move through the rooms of the Octagon House as a story written by one of the home’s own residents plays out around them. It’s based on a 1956 tale by Carl Carmer\, the American author and folklorist who lived in the house for thirty years. The story follows a young woman who lost her love when their steamboat went down on the Hudson River\, and whose spirit is said to still wait along its shores. Her mother is part of the story too\, still searching and never learning what became of her daughter. The result is a 75-minute experience that blends local legend\, live storytelling\, and the real rooms where the tale was imagined. \nAfter the performance\, guests can visit Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. With objects ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary works\, it explores how earlier generations dealt with death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nA seasonal favorite at the house\, it’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. Once you’ve seen it\, read the full story behind the legend in Ghosts of the Octagon House. \nDetails: Performances run for three weekends\, October 16 through November 1: Fridays and Saturdays (October 16–17\, 23–24\, and 30–31) at 4:00 pm and 5:45 pm\, and Sundays (October 18\, October 25\, and November 1) at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets are $58 per person and required for every guest. Because the tour often touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early. Book at armourstiner.com. The house is at 45 West Clinton Avenue\, Irvington\, NY.

SUMMARY:Irving’s Legend at Sunnyside
DESCRIPTION:Hear the Legend told on Washington Irving’s own lawn.\nWashington Irving is buried a few miles up the road. Every October\, his most famous story comes back to the house where he spent his last twenty years — performed outdoors\, after dark\, on the grounds of Sunnyside. \nMaster storyteller Jonathan Kruk has been doing this for decades\, and he doesn’t recite the tale so much as inhabit it. He plays all of them: the gangly\, superstitious Ichabod Crane; the coquettish Katrina Van Tassel; swaggering Brom Bones. Jim Keyes supplies live organ music and sound effects\, and a cast of shadowy figures moves at the edge of the lantern light. Then the hoofbeats start. \nThere’s no stage\, no screen\, and no jump-scare gimmickry — just Irving’s nineteenth-century prose\, a good storyteller\, and the sound of the Hudson somewhere below you in the dark. Fifty-five minutes later you’ll understand why this one sells out every single year. \nKnow before you go\n\nWhere: Washington Irving’s Sunnyside\, 3 W Sunnyside Lane\, Irvington\, NY 10533\nWhen: Fridays–Sundays\, October 2–31. Most nights offer two or three performance times between 5 and 9 pm.\nRun time: About 55 minutes\nTickets: From $40; Historic Hudson Valley members save 15%. Advance tickets only — nothing is sold at the gate\, and dates sell out well before Halloween.\nAges: Recommended for 10 and up. It’s family-friendly\, but the period language\, the length\, and the low-light outdoor setting are a lot for younger kids.\nTerrain: Seated outdoor performance with some walking over uneven ground. Dress for a cold night by the river.\n\nTickets and full schedule: hudsonvalley.org or 914-366-6900 \nPresented by Historic Hudson Valley. \nMultiple performances per evening\, see organizer’s website for actual times.

SUMMARY:The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Local Lore
DESCRIPTION:Follow a lamplit path to the ruins of Rockwood Hall\, high above the Hudson\, where storyteller and author David Neilsen is waiting with an evening of Sleepy Hollow’s lesser-known ghost stories — and one very famous one. \nThe program opens with local lore drawn from the preserve’s own ground\, the tales Washington Irving didn’t make famous\, before turning to “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” itself and the real places behind it. It closes the way it has to: with the Headless Horseman\, mounted\, riding out of the dark. \nDress for a night walk on unpaved park paths in late October. \nNote that Rockwood Hall is the preserve’s western section\, reached from Route 9 — not the main entrance on Route 117. Advance tickets through Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze
DESCRIPTION:More than 7\,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns light up the riverside grounds of Van Cortlandt Manor.\nTen acres of an 18th-century estate above the Hudson become a half-mile walk past life-sized dinosaurs\, a working carousel\, a planetarium built entirely of glowing gourds\, and the Headless Horseman riding out of the dark. \nArches\, tunnels\, and clearings open up where the pumpkins climb well above head height\, all of it lit in sequence and scored to an original soundtrack\, so the light moves with the music and the walk keeps reintroducing itself around each bend. \nNew for 2026: a longer path with more displays than any previous season\, movie-monster photo ops\, storybook characters carved to look like they’ve stepped off the page\, and a full pumpkin dance party. \nSpooky\, not scary. No jump scares\, no actors chasing you — it works as well for a six-year-old as for the friend who claims they’ve outgrown Halloween. \nTwo ticketed add-ons let you step off the trail midway: the Gourd & Goblet Tavern\, inside the manor’s 18th-century brick tavern\, and the Headless Horseman’s Hideaway\, a pop-up lounge with visits from the Horseman himself. Both must be booked in advance. \nAdvance tickets only — nothing is sold at the gate\, and dates sell out. FLEX tickets get you in on any open night\, even when the calendar is full. \n2026 dates: Select dates\, September 18-November 8. Open every night in October. Entry times vary by date.

SUMMARY:Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Lantern Tour
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time and explore Sleepy Hollow Cemetery by kerosene lantern light. This two-hour evening walk is the perfect introduction to why these storied grounds are so famous—an atmospheric journey through history under the glow of flickering flame. \nYour guide leads you past the resting places of titans of industry like Andrew Carnegie and William Rockefeller\, and you’ll meet Washington Irving\, whose famous short story gave our village its very name. SUMMARY:Peek-a-Boo (An Immersive Hudson Valley Haunt)
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand\, River’s Edge Theatre Company and Bethany Arts Community are teaming up for the third year in a row to remount the wildly provocative Peek-a-Boo (An Immersive Hudson Valley Haunt)\, now with new secret scenes to keep patrons coming back for more. \nWritten by Meghan Covington and directed by Jessica Irons\, Peek-A-Boo is inspired by the real Peek-a-Boo flats of Tarrytown\, NY as well as popular historical figures from the Hudson Valley Region. The Peek-a-Boo\, a popular yet controversial club located on Wildey Street in Tarrytown in the early 20th century\, was often criticized by local residents. Yet\, the flats never had a shortage of customers. \nIn this production\, patrons are invited to go back in time to the Peek-a-Boo (Bethany Arts Community) and attend a 1920’s style vaudeville/burlesque show. There they can drink the potions\, delight in the dancers\, and let their senses run wild. Once they are spellbound\, patrons can then follow characters such as Hulda the Witch\, John Andre\, and Sadie the Goat on their journeys throughout the Peek-a-boo\, learning dark secrets and scandalous confessions. Scary storytelling and immersive theatre combine to make this show the perfect Halloween experience for Hudson Valley residents and tourists alike. \n\n\n\n\n\nPatrons should note that this production is intended for mature audiences only.

SUMMARY:Myths & Mysteries of The Octagon House
DESCRIPTION:A Halloween-season guided tour at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nFor generations\, the eight-sided Armour-Stiner Octagon House has inspired whispered local legends\, and this fall its guides are opening the door to them. Myths & Mysteries is an hour-long guided tour through the National Historic Landmark that goes beyond architecture and furnishings to explore the strange stories\, unexplained happenings\, and firsthand accounts left behind by the people who once lived there. Along the way\, history and the otherworldly blur together\, and visitors leave with a new sense of just how unusual this Hudson Valley landmark really is. Want a taste of the lore before you go? Read Ghosts of the Octagon House for the stories of the fragrant spirit and the Lady in White. \nThe experience continues after the tour with Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. Spanning ancient artifacts to contemporary pieces\, it looks at how earlier generations faced death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nIt’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. \nDetails: Tickets are $38 per person and required for every guest. Timed entry varies by day. Because the tour frequently touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

SUMMARY:An Ode to Francis Saltus Saltus
DESCRIPTION:A night of verse about wives\, wine and the grave\, from a wickedly witty Gilded Age poet!\nJoin Sleepy Hollow Cemetery for an evening in honor of illustrious poet\, linguist\, musician and scholar Francis Saltus Saltus\, a name so nice\, they gave it to him twice. \nFluent in 10 languages\, the ambidextrous Francis was said to be able to write sonnets with one hand while simultaneously composing opera with the other. He was quite a character\, to put it mildly. \nThe epitome of “live fast\, die young”\, Saltus penned classics like Flasks & Flagons\, an ode to 31 beverages including tea\, hot chocolate\, coffee\, water – and 27 kinds of alcohol. It’s no wonder he died at age 40 in 1889. \nEnjoy a reading of his delightful poems and quaff an adult beverage or two to get in the right spirit before visiting his grave. It will be the perfect way to pay our respects to the talented Mr. Saltus! \nAges 21+. Seated indoor event; runs rain or shine (grave visit weather permitting). \n\nAn Ode to Francis Saltus Saltus is just one stop on Sleepy Hollow Cemetery’s 2026 special-events calendar. This fall\, you can also catch dramatic readings of Dracula\, Frankenstein\, Jekyll & Hyde\, and The Time Machine; step into an interactive Murder Mystery inspired by Washington Irving’s most famous tale; sip Champagne Cocktails with the Dead among the cemetery’s grandest mausoleums; and paint your own Headless Horseman alongside artist Heather Gleason. See the full lineup and reserve your seats at sleepyhollowcemetery.org/special-events.
