SUMMARY:Ghost Tours of Tarrytown Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join this guided tour created by Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk and discover the historic lore and spirits that linger at The Tarrytown Music Hall. \nThe Tarrytown Music Hall was built in 1885 during the Millionaire’s Colony Era when mansions dotted the Hudson Valley landscape and families such as the Rockefellers\, Goulds and Vanderbilts gathered at the Music Hall to participate in its lavish balls\, flower shows and concerts. Since then\, the Music Hall has been a reflection of the human spirit\, mirroring the current events of the town and the rest of the world. In addition to Presidents’ speeches\, it has hosted women’s suffrage rallies and endured several wars\, depressions and pandemics including those of 1918 and 2019. It is a vessel through which many people pass. And some don’t leave . . . \nThe building is an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. Gotham Paranormal Research Society has investigated the Music Hall several times and has consistently detected paranormal activity including intriguing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio files and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings. \nThe 45-minute tour kicks off in the theater lobby and does include climbing stairs and extended periods of standing. Times vary by date. \n2026 Dates: October 3\, 4\, 10\, 11\, 17\, 18. \nMake a night of it\nThe Music Hall’s ghost tours land right in the heart of Halloween in Sleepy Hollow Country. Pair yours with dinner at one of Tarrytown’s restaurants a short walk away\, or check what else is on the Hall’s stage that weekend at Tarrytown Music Hall Performances.

SUMMARY:Myths & Mysteries of The Octagon House
DESCRIPTION:A Halloween-season guided tour at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nFor generations\, the eight-sided Armour-Stiner Octagon House has inspired whispered local legends\, and this fall its guides are opening the door to them. Myths & Mysteries is an hour-long guided tour through the National Historic Landmark that goes beyond architecture and furnishings to explore the strange stories\, unexplained happenings\, and firsthand accounts left behind by the people who once lived there. Along the way\, history and the otherworldly blur together\, and visitors leave with a new sense of just how unusual this Hudson Valley landmark really is. Want a taste of the lore before you go? Read Ghosts of the Octagon House for the stories of the fragrant spirit and the Lady in White. \nThe experience continues after the tour with Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. Spanning ancient artifacts to contemporary pieces\, it looks at how earlier generations faced death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nIt’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. \nDetails: Tickets are $38 per person and required for every guest. Timed entry varies by day. Because the tour frequently touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

SUMMARY:Spirits of Sleepy Hollow Country
DESCRIPTION:Sleepy Hollow has more ghosts than the Horseman. Two illusionists intend to get them talking.\n\n\n\nMark Clearview and Nick Wallace return to Philipsburg Manor this October with an original magic show built around the spirits of Sleepy Hollow Country — not generic stage spooks\, but the local dead. Hulda of Bohemia\, the healer the village called a witch. Major John André\, the British spy caught just down the road in Tarrytown. And the Headless Horseman\, who needs no introduction around here. \n\n\n\nThe premise is that none of them ever left\, and all of them have something to say about it. What follows is an hour’s worth of illusion delivered with real comic timing — a magic show first\, funnier more often than it is frightening\, even as the lights drop and things begin happening that shouldn’t. \n\n\n\nIt runs about 50 minutes with no intermission\, in reserved seats\, and it sells out every year. \n\n\n\nNew for 2026: premium seats ($89) now include a complimentary beer or wine and a snack. \n\n\n\nKnow before you go\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Philipsburg Manor\, 381 North Broadway\, Sleepy Hollow\, NY 10591. Overflow parking at 100 Continental Street.\n\n\n\nWhen: Fridays–Sundays\, October 2–31. Two to four performances a day depending on the date\, from mid-afternoon through 7:30 pm. Check Historic Hudson Valley’s website for exact times.\n\n\n\nRun time: About 50 minutes\, no intermission\n\n\n\nArrive early. Seating is reserved\, the show starts promptly\, and latecomers can’t be seated.\n\n\n\nTickets: Value seating $65\, standard $79\, premium $89. Historic Hudson Valley members save 15%. Advance purchase only\, no tickets sold on site.\n\n\n\nAges: Recommended for 10 and up. Expect dim lighting\, moments of suspense\, and effects designed to startle.\n\n\n\nAccessibility: Accessible seating is available by phone at 914-366-6900.\n\n\n\n\nTickets and full schedule: hudsonvalley.org or 914-366-6900

SUMMARY:'Tis the Wind and Nothing More
DESCRIPTION:An immersive Halloween-season tour with a performance of “The Raven” at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nFor two October weekends only\, the Armour-Stiner Octagon House goes back more than a century to host a literary evening. Guests are welcomed as visitors to the annual salon of Jessie Clarke\, one of the most puzzling people ever to live in the eight-sided house. Wealthy relatives set the house aside for her\, and she lived there for 25 years until her death in 1933\, reportedly mostly alone. Much about her remains unclear\, including the state of her health in those years\, which was never documented and is still debated. This 75-minute immersive tour mixes the house’s real history with a hint of the uncanny. It ends with a dramatic reading of “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe himself. \nAfter the performance\, guests can visit Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. With objects ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary works\, it explores how earlier generations dealt with death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nFor fans of Poe\, Victorian mystery\, or theatrical history\, it’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. \nDetails: Performances run over two October weekends: Friday and Saturday\, October 2–3 and 9–10\, at 4:00 pm and 5:45 pm\, and Sunday\, October 4 and 11\, at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets are $58 per person and required for every guest. Because the tour often touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. SUMMARY:Blessing of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Blessing of the Animals at Christ Church! Furry friends\, fish & fowl\, snakes\, bugs\, and every creature in between are welcome — pets and people of all faiths\, and no faith\, are invited to join this joyful\, rain-or-shine tradition marking the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. \nThe Blessing takes place in front of the historic church. All pets should be leashed or in carriers. \nChrist Church holds a special place in Sleepy Hollow history: Washington Irving\, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\, followed the Rev. Dr. William Creighton to this parish from Zion Episcopal in Dobbs Ferry. Irving served as vestryman\, warden\, and Sunday School teacher here until his death in 1859 — the ivy on the church’s walls was cut from his home\, Sunnyside\, and his pew is still marked in the sanctuary today. \nCome celebrate the bond between people and animals in one of Sleepy Hollow Country’s most historic settings.

Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

SUMMARY:Irving’s Legend at Sunnyside
DESCRIPTION:Hear the Legend told on Washington Irving’s own lawn.\nWashington Irving is buried a few miles up the road. Every October\, his most famous story comes back to the house where he spent his last twenty years — performed outdoors\, after dark\, on the grounds of Sunnyside. \nMaster storyteller Jonathan Kruk has been doing this for decades\, and he doesn’t recite the tale so much as inhabit it. He plays all of them: the gangly\, superstitious Ichabod Crane; the coquettish Katrina Van Tassel; swaggering Brom Bones. Jim Keyes supplies live organ music and sound effects\, and a cast of shadowy figures moves at the edge of the lantern light. Then the hoofbeats start. \nThere’s no stage\, no screen\, and no jump-scare gimmickry — just Irving’s nineteenth-century prose\, a good storyteller\, and the sound of the Hudson somewhere below you in the dark. Fifty-five minutes later you’ll understand why this one sells out every single year. \nKnow before you go\n\nWhere: Washington Irving’s Sunnyside\, 3 W Sunnyside Lane\, Irvington\, NY 10533\nWhen: Fridays–Sundays\, October 2–31. Most nights offer two or three performance times between 5 and 9 pm.\nRun time: About 55 minutes\nTickets: From $40; Historic Hudson Valley members save 15%. Advance tickets only — nothing is sold at the gate\, and dates sell out well before Halloween.\nAges: Recommended for 10 and up. It’s family-friendly\, but the period language\, the length\, and the low-light outdoor setting are a lot for younger kids.\nTerrain: Seated outdoor performance with some walking over uneven ground. Dress for a cold night by the river.\n\nTickets and full schedule: hudsonvalley.org or 914-366-6900 \nPresented by Historic Hudson Valley. \nMultiple performances per evening\, see organizer’s website for actual times.

SUMMARY:The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze
DESCRIPTION:More than 7\,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns light up the riverside grounds of Van Cortlandt Manor.\nTen acres of an 18th-century estate above the Hudson become a half-mile walk past life-sized dinosaurs\, a working carousel\, a planetarium built entirely of glowing gourds\, and the Headless Horseman riding out of the dark. \nArches\, tunnels\, and clearings open up where the pumpkins climb well above head height\, all of it lit in sequence and scored to an original soundtrack\, so the light moves with the music and the walk keeps reintroducing itself around each bend. \nNew for 2026: a longer path with more displays than any previous season\, movie-monster photo ops\, storybook characters carved to look like they’ve stepped off the page\, and a full pumpkin dance party. \nSpooky\, not scary. No jump scares\, no actors chasing you — it works as well for a six-year-old as for the friend who claims they’ve outgrown Halloween. \nTwo ticketed add-ons let you step off the trail midway: the Gourd & Goblet Tavern\, inside the manor’s 18th-century brick tavern\, and the Headless Horseman’s Hideaway\, a pop-up lounge with visits from the Horseman himself. Both must be booked in advance. \nAdvance tickets only — nothing is sold at the gate\, and dates sell out. FLEX tickets get you in on any open night\, even when the calendar is full. \n2026 dates: Select dates\, September 18-November 8. Open every night in October. Entry times vary by date.

SUMMARY:Two-Day Gouache Workshop at Pocantico
DESCRIPTION:Drawing inspiration from Kykuit’s stunning gardens\, architecture\, and landscapes\, participants in this two-day immersive workshop will strengthen their drawing and painting skills while exploring the expressive possibilities of gouache. Gouache (pronounced “gwash”) is an opaque\, water-based paint that combines the luminous qualities of watercolor with exceptional coverage and versatility\, allowing painters to layer colors and easily rework their work. Participants will also be introduced to acrylic gouache and watercolor\, and how these complementary media pair with traditional gouache. \nThe workshop covers key fundamentals — light and shadow\, color relationships\, composition\, and structure — through demonstrations and hands-on practice\, with an emphasis on rich color and developing a personal painting voice. Working on location encourages close observation of shifting light\, atmosphere\, and seasonal color\, deepening participants’ connection to place. \nIndividual instruction and group discussion will help refine each artist’s approach. By the end of the workshop\, participants will leave with a collection of paintings and greater confidence in their own artistic voice. \nA boxed lunch is provided; participants should bring their own art materials (a full list is emailed after enrollment). Suitable for all skill levels\, from beginner to advanced — applicants will be asked to submit a brief statement on their background and goals for the workshop. \nGood to know: Some walking is required on uphill\, uneven\, and gravel terrain\, plus stairs — wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing\, and bring a reusable water bottle. Sunscreen and bug spray recommended. All sales are final; no refunds\, including if the event is moved to its rain date. The rain dates for this event are October 13–14\, 2026.

His request\, now\, to see her again stirs up ghosts she’s kept at bay for a lifetime.\nShifting between past and present\, Livia’s decision to meet or reject the reunion means confronting step by step\, in memories framed as musical dances\, the experiences of childhood loss\, abandonment\, self-immolating passion\, and perilous attachment to a man who broke her belief in love and ruptured the course of her life.\nWith razor-sharp acuity and deep affection\, Pulitzer Prize winner Barbara Kingsolver’s unforgettable new novel reflects on class barriers\, the risks of ambition\, and the timeless\, life-changing power of art. \nLive Talks NY is produced by Los Angeles based Live Talks Productions which has curated the Live Talks Los Angeles series for the last 16 years featuring over 600 conversations with writers\, actors\, musicians\, humorists\, artists\, chefs\, scientists and thought leaders in business.
