SUMMARY:Octagon House Classic Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, a registered National Historic Landmark\, was created as a summer retreat by tea-importer Joseph Stiner. Its shape was based on the theories of Orson Squire Fowler\, a phrenologist\, who believed octagonal houses enclosed more space\, allowed the sun in at all times\, and permitted more views into the landscape. \nThe tour includes a brief history of specimen plants original to the property\, the carefully restored Lord and Burnham greenhouse\, the wonderfully romantic foxglove garden\, (shaped in the exact size and footprint of the house itself!)\, and the charming Octagonal birdhouse\, (a scaled-down replica of the house). Visitors will also experience the house’s wrap-around veranda that offers 360-degree views of the lush landscape\, as well as particular architectural details which relate specifically to native plants and foliage of the grounds. Finally\, the tour will continue inside the house with an interior tour of the first\, second and third floors\, which retain their magnificent ornamentation and furnishings. \nTimed tours only\, last tour of the day starts at 4 pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance. \nThe Octagon House is a private residence. In exchange for the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind historic home\, all visitors must follow house rules.

SUMMARY:Glass Pumpkin Patch
DESCRIPTION:The village of Sleepy Hollow welcomes glass artist Gregory Tomb this season. Greg has partnered with the Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley to create the inaugural Glass Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser of Sleepy Hollow\, October 14-16\, 2022 in Kingsland Point Park. \nThis festive event will showcase over 1\,000 whimsical\, vibrantly colored glass pumpkins handmade by Gregory Tomb\, a nationally acclaimed glass artist known for his unique\, intricate designs. These one-of-a-kind works of art will be available for purchase. Proceeds support the Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley which has granted the wishes of more than 3\,000 children in the Hudson Valley region with critical illnesses. \nArtist Gregory Tomb has been fascinated by glass art since childhood\, when road trips with his family would often include visits to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning\, N.Y. After studying glassblowing as an art student at Hartwick College\, Tomb explored a variety of personal and professional interests — but glass art always remained his passion. He honed his craft as a production glassblower in a factory for world-renowned glass maker Simon Pearce. \nTomb has been awarded “best in glass” and served as the featured artist at the Nassau County Museum of Art\, the Hampton Fine Art Festival\, the Stuart Art Festival and the Scottsdale Artfest. His colorful creations have also been featured in numerous museums and magazines nationwide. \nCurrently\, Tomb is the summer Artist-in-Residence for Johnsburg\, NY\, a small town in the Adirondacks. He provides glassblowing experiences for all ages each season and shares his art in the gallery along the Hudson River. For more information about the artist and his glass pumpkin patches visit https://www.gregorytglass.com \nThis is a free event although a parking fee at Kingsland Point Park will apply.

SUMMARY:Hulda’s Night at Rockefeller State Park Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Hulda’s Night at Rockefeller State Park Preserve is like nothing else you’ve ever experienced. Step back in time on this very special night in the woods of the real Sleepy Hollow! \nYou walk through the gathering gloom\, your path lit only by lanterns. The dark woods surround you as the chill night air settles in. \nYour group joins a traveler around his fire and listens to local legends. He is The Storyteller. But your journey has only begun and you must not tarry. Up Old Gory Brook Road trail\, amidst the boulders\, Domine Johannes Ritzema\, Pastor of the Old Dutch Church in 1775\, waits to tell you the struggles of holding a congregation together during the time of war and of the witch living near by and threatening his flock \nThe coyotes sing as the moon rises and reminds your group that it is time for the last part of your journey. As you trek down to the Witch’s Spring trail\, in the distance the magical fairy lights tell you that you are nearing Hulda’s Hut and the “witch” awaits you! Here you sit in hand-carved seats made from the very trees that surround you\, on the site where Hulda’s home may have actually stood nearly 250 years ago.
SUMMARY:The Man Behind the Legend
DESCRIPTION:Meet the man behind the Legend! In his most famous short story Washington Irving says of Sleepy Hollow Country\, “If ever I should wish for a retreat whither I might steal from the world and its distractions\, and dream quietly away the remnant of a troubled life\, I know of none more promising than this little valley.” \nWhat better way to spend an evening in Sleepy Hollow than with the original dreamer himself\, Mr. Washington Irving! For a limited number of nights\, the master storyteller himself will visit from the beyond the grave to regale you with stories and tales not from his many famous works\, but from his very own life! This evening talk amongst the tombstones in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery will leave you amused and appreciative of just how extraordinary Washington Irving was. \nIrving was the life of the party before he went six feet under.
