In his “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” Washington Irving said that Sleepy Hollow was bewitched by a “high German doctor.” Some believe Irving was referring to “Hulda the witch”, a healer who had emigrated from Bohemia and who lived in what is today the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. If you have ever hiked the Witch’s Spring Trail, then you have walked by what was Hulda’s home.
Come pay homage to Hulda in the Rockefeller Preserve’s annual Hulda’s Night.
The evening will begin at the home of the Preserve’s Manager (25 Sleepy Hollow Road). The will hike over to Witch’s Spring Trail where they will hear Hulda tell her tale as well as other Preserve lore. All are invited to warm up by a fire and complimentary hot drinks and snacks at the end of the hike.
PLEASE NOTE: Numbers are limited so registration is required for this event. There will be two groups. The First Group departs at 6pm the second departs at 7pm (sharp). While this is not intended to be a scary event, it does take place at night and there is a witch involved, so the organizers suggest children be over age 10. Please bring flashlights with you. Rain date: Monday October 26th.
2020 dates: October 22, 23, 24.
Cost: $5, limit 4. The organizer’s web site indicates tickets will be available September 1, 2020. SOLD OUT.
