SUMMARY:Scarecrow's Ball
DESCRIPTION:The Good Witch Coffee Bar’s Scarecrow’s Ball is an all-day\, Oz-themed Halloween extravaganza with a dash of magic and a sprinkle of mischief. It’s got everything from “witchy” brews to a costume contest\, perfect for those who think their scarecrow outfit is next-level fabulous. The day kicks off with a Drag Queen Story Hour (because why not?)\, followed by live music\, old-school games\, a raffle\, and a chance to craft your own wand. Expect prizes\, laughs\, and more treats than tricks. It’s Halloween\, but with glitter and sass! \n\n9 am – 10 am Drag Queen Story Hour by the Wicked Witch and the Good Witch\n10 am – 12 pm Live Music by Marianna Overdrive\n9 am – 11 am Decorate a trick or treat bag with Kids Upcycling Club\n11 am – 1 pm Foraged Wands Craft by The Wreath Forager\n\n\nYou may ask yourself\, why there is a Good Witch Coffee Bar and a Scarecrow’s Ball in the land of the Headless Horseman? The Hastings-on-Hudson Historical Society explains: “Mary William Ethelbert Appleton ‘Billie’ Burke\, best known as the good witch Glinda in the 1939 film version of ‘The Wizard of Oz\,’ began her film and stage career in 1907. She was 24 years old and already a star when she bought the Kirkham estate on Broadway in Hastings in 1910. The estate possessed a fine mansion that Billie re-christened Burkeley Crest.”

SUMMARY:Victorian Tintype Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Back and expanded due to popular demand\, this 2024 Halloween season is the chance to bring home a piece of photographic history. Victorian Photography Studio/Union Tintype and Hellcat Darkroom will be at Lyndhurst mansion ready to take your portrait using 19th-century photographic technology\, resulting in a one-of-a-kind tintype portrait. Bring home a special memento of your trip to Lyndhurst during the most exciting time of the year. \nAs this is a traveling studio\, costumes will not be on site to rent\, but visitors are welcome to come dressed for the occasion or in your Halloween best! \nYou will need to reserve your time slot and choose what size portrait you want. Each session can accommodate up to 5 individuals. Groups of 6 and larger should purchase multiple\, subsequent time slots. Each slot results in one physical portrait; so choosing two slots for a large group results in TWO images. Timed entry is every 15 minutes. Photography must be reserved ahead of time as there will be no walk-on availability unless there is a no-show. \nCollodion\, or wet-plate photography as we have come to know it today\, was invented in 1851 by a gentleman named Fredrick S. Archer. This process was invented to allow images to be made on glass — multiple copies then could be made from the same plate. In 1856\, the tin-type process was added\, allowing collodion images to be made on thin sheets of metal. \nThe unique thing about this process is that the plate must remain wet before being sensitized and exposed. If the plate dries out before the photographer has time to develop the image\, it will no longer be light-sensitive and will be completely useless. Hence the name “wet plate” process. \nWhen you have a wet plate done\, not only do you receive a beautiful piece of history with your image in it — you also get a short history lesson and witness the process of genuine 19th-century photography.
