Along the way you’ll pause at landmarks like the Receiving Vault and the Revolutionary War Memorial\, decode the symbolism hidden in the cemetery’s Victorian statuary and headstones\, and visit the resting place of Irving himself. It’s a fun\, atmospheric way to spend an hour—and the perfect anchor for a day steeped in Sleepy Hollow’s autumn spirit. \nLocation: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery\, South Gate — 430 North Broadway\nParking: Free parking is available inside the gate.\nWhat to expect: This tour covers unpaved\, grassy terrain with a steep hill and some stairs. Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are strongly recommended. Tours run rain or shine; if a tour is canceled for severe weather\, refunds are issued and cancellations are posted at least one hour beforehand.\nDates: Saturdays and Sundays through Thanksgiving weekend from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and 3:00-4:00 p.m. Weekdays in October from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Weekends in October also 11:00 a.m. – 12 noon. \nAdvance tickets required. All tour proceeds support the preservation and restoration of the cemetery grounds through the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Historic Fund\, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. \n\nOther Ways to Explore Sleepy Hollow Cemetery \nLooking for a different angle on these historic grounds? Consider these companion experiences: \n\nClassic Daytime Tour — The very same route and stories as the Lantern Tour\, walked by daylight—ideal if you’d like to see more of the landscape.\nThe Classic Evening Lantern Tour — This two-hour evening tour gives you a great overview of why Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is so famous.\nSeptember & October Special Events — Seasonal tours and programs that lean into Sleepy Hollow’s legendary autumn spirit.\n\nSee all Sleepy Hollow Cemetery tours →

SUMMARY:The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze
DESCRIPTION:More than 7\,000 hand-carved jack o’lanterns light up the riverside grounds of Van Cortlandt Manor.\nTen acres of an 18th-century estate above the Hudson become a half-mile walk past life-sized dinosaurs\, a working carousel\, a planetarium built entirely of glowing gourds\, and the Headless Horseman riding out of the dark. \nArches\, tunnels\, and clearings open up where the pumpkins climb well above head height\, all of it lit in sequence and scored to an original soundtrack\, so the light moves with the music and the walk keeps reintroducing itself around each bend. \nNew for 2026: a longer path with more displays than any previous season\, movie-monster photo ops\, storybook characters carved to look like they’ve stepped off the page\, and a full pumpkin dance party. \nSpooky\, not scary. No jump scares\, no actors chasing you — it works as well for a six-year-old as for the friend who claims they’ve outgrown Halloween. \nTwo ticketed add-ons let you step off the trail midway: the Gourd & Goblet Tavern\, inside the manor’s 18th-century brick tavern\, and the Headless Horseman’s Hideaway\, a pop-up lounge with visits from the Horseman himself. Both must be booked in advance. \nAdvance tickets only — nothing is sold at the gate\, and dates sell out. FLEX tickets get you in on any open night\, even when the calendar is full. \n2026 dates: Select dates\, September 18-November 8. Open every night in October. Entry times vary by date.

SUMMARY:The Headless Horseman Files
DESCRIPTION:Four suspects\, one missing schoolmaster\, and 45 minutes to work out what happened — Sleepy Hollow’s whodunit\, staged in broad daylight.\nA guide walks you through the grounds of Philipsburg Manor\, where the townsfolk of 1790 are waiting with their alibis. Fiery Hans Van Ripper\, charming Katrina Van Tassel\, spectral Hulda the Witch\, and bold Brom Bones each have a story about the night Ichabod Crane disappeared — and each has a motive. You gather the clues and reach your own verdict. \nSomething is lurking in the shadows\, too. The Headless Horseman doesn’t wait for nightfall here. \nRecommended for ages 8+. One stretch takes place in near-darkness. Timed admission; advance tickets recommended.

SUMMARY:Irvington Farmers Market
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy live music\, river views and a laid-back setting at this small-town Sunday market showcasing the best of what the Hudson Valley has to offer. In season\, there’s fresh local produce\, seafood and meats\, cheese\, pickles\, prepared foods and baked goods\, with live music most weeks. \nThe Irvington Farmers Market runs Sunday mornings outdoors on the grounds of the Main Street School\, a short stroll from Washington Irving’s home\, Sunnyside. Look for the life-sized statue of Irving’s character Rip Van Winkle at the southwestern corner of the school property\, facing Main Street. The market sits right on the leafy Old Croton Aqueduct Trail and is an easy walk from the Irvington Metro-North station\, so many shoppers arrive on foot or by bike — see Sleepy Hollow Without a Car for train details. \nRun by Morning Glory Markets\, the outdoor season runs Sundays from spring through late fall. A separate winter market operates indoors on Saturdays in the off-season; check the organizer’s site for this year’s exact dates. \nGetting there: Sunday parking is available on the village streets and in the municipal lot at the top of Main Street. Avoid the permit-only lot across from the Main Street School. \nSundays\, 9 am to 1:30 pm\, rain or shine. Well-behaved dogs are welcome\, provided your pooch is leashed. \nPlanning a fall visit? The Irvington market is the Sunday counterpart to Saturday’s TaSH market in Tarrytown — see how it anchors a low-key morning in A Perfect Fall Day in Sleepy Hollow.

SUMMARY:Blessing of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Blessing of the Animals at Christ Church! Furry friends\, fish & fowl\, snakes\, bugs\, and every creature in between are welcome — pets and people of all faiths\, and no faith\, are invited to join this joyful\, rain-or-shine tradition marking the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. \nThe Blessing takes place in front of the historic church. All pets should be leashed or in carriers. \nChrist Church holds a special place in Sleepy Hollow history: Washington Irving\, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\, followed the Rev. Dr. William Creighton to this parish from Zion Episcopal in Dobbs Ferry. Irving served as vestryman\, warden\, and Sunday School teacher here until his death in 1859 — the ivy on the church’s walls was cut from his home\, Sunnyside\, and his pew is still marked in the sanctuary today. \nCome celebrate the bond between people and animals in one of Sleepy Hollow Country’s most historic settings.
