SUMMARY:The Mavericks
DESCRIPTION:The Mavericks are back for their annual run at the Tarrytown Music Hall! The eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon\, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally\, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. \nNow\, The Mavericks have ushered in the fourth phase of their evolution with the #1 Billboard debut of their first-ever\, all Spanish album\, En EspanÞol\, released on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish\, as the title suggests\, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions\, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are familiar gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook\, while five are originals written or co-written by Malo. \nLike the band’s entire body of music\, this one album cannot be boxed into a single category. The songs are as diverse as Latin America itself\, and as cohesive as the ideal of the American melting pot. To season this rich musical paella\, The Mavericks add their signature country/rock/Tex-Mex flavors and a refreshing spontaneity to the mix. En EspanÞol flips the band’s usual fusion formula\, which adds a striking assortment of genres – salsa\, ska\, nortenÞo\, mariachi\, and much more – to its sturdy rock/country base. Now \, the foundation is solidly Latin with streaks of irreverent rock and twangy guitars running through it\, all branded with the unmistakable Mavericks style.

SUMMARY:Blackmore's Night
DESCRIPTION:2022 marks the official 25th Anniversary of Blackmore’s Night\, inspired by many melodies of the Renaissance period\, and Blackmoreized into contemporary music. They call it Renaissance/Folk/Rock. At the helm is the dynamic husband and wife duo: celebrated guitarist Ritchie Blackmore\, who traverses between acoustic and electric guitar\, mandolin\, mandola\, cello\, and hurdy gurdy\, and Candice Night\, who not only contributes her unique\, entrancing vocals\, but deftly navigates seven medieval woodwinds\, including bagpipe\, chanters\, shawms\, corner music\, pennywhistles\, and recorders. Further enhancing the band’s inspired sound are keyboardist/back-up vocalist Bard David\, violinist Scarlett Fiddler\, back-up vocalist/shawm player Lady Lynn\, bassist/rhythmic guitarist Earl Grey\, and percussionist Troubadour of Aberdeen. With lyrics penned by Night\, the collective embraces the aura of the old world inn\, from madrigals and ballads to good old fashioned\, Renaissance-inspired pub songs. \nTheir latest release To The Moon And Back: 20 Years And Beyond… is a best-of compilation including the most-requested and beloved songs from their fans\, all of which have been re-mastered. Alongside these classics\, the album includes four re-recorded new versions of some of their favorites: “Moonlight Shadow”\, “Somewhere Over The Sea”\, “Coming Home”\, and “Writing On The Wall”. Additionally\, the set has a live version of “Home Again” and three brand new songs: “Ghost Of John” (which includes the vocal debut of Blackmore and Night’s 6-year-old daughter Autumn)\, Ritchie Blackmore’s new version of “Land of Hope and Glory” and Candice Night lending her vocals to a favored Rainbow tune “I Surrender”. The set is complete with a booklet boasting a collage of 20 years of memorabilia and a small unrehearsed video from a sound check\, rewarding fans with an intimate glimpse behind the scenes.

With stunning vocals\, a diverse range of sonics\, and incisive lyrics\, this deeply engaging collection of new original songs is her response to “the crazy\, chaotic times we’re living in\,” she says\, and “a recognition of the important role music has to play in this moment. Music has a unique ability to re-energize people and allow us to continue to hang on to that sense of joy of being alive.” \n\nSince she broke through 25 years ago with the multi-platinum Relish and its touchstone mega-smash “One of Us\,” the seven-time Grammy nominee has never played it safe. Osborne has followed her restless musical heart\, exploring a diverse range of genres: pop rock\, soul\, R&B\, blues\, roots rock\, gospel\, funk\, and country – all of which can be heard on Trouble and Strife\, along with the Western side of C&W and a touch of glam and disco. “For a lot of the record\, we were going for a ‘70s AM radio vibe\,” says Osborne. As for the lyrics\, the songs “are the most political I’ve ever written\,”she conveys of her first album of originals since 2014’s confessional Love and Hate. Osborne also produced Trouble and Strife\, primarily recorded in her basement studio in Brooklyn and released on the label she founded in 1991\, Womanly Hips. \nMulti-instrumentalist\, singer-songwriter Larry Campbell and singer-guitarist Teresa Williams are frequent collaborators with Phil Lesh\, Levon Helm\, Little Feat\, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady\, brought to the stage the crackling creative energy of a decades-long offstage union.

SUMMARY:Tower of Power
DESCRIPTION:For over 50 years\, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music.“We were a Soul band called The Motowns.” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player\, I was there\, and my brother was the drummer. I met “Doc” Kupka back in 1968\, and gave him an audition. He came in the band\, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind. \nEast Bay Grease defined their sound and landed them with Warner Brothers. Bump City\, their 1972 debut for the label\, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B Albums chart\, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down to The Nightclub.” The 70s were a boom period with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?\,” and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968. \n50 years later\, in 2018\, they returned to Oakland to celebrate their landmark 50th anniversary. Tower’s window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit has been a balm for the soul throughout their half-century existence\, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater couldn’t have arrived at a better time. \nThe band has long since surpassed Castillo’s modest aspirations\, traveling the world\, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists including Otis Redding\, Elton John\, Santana\, the Grateful Dead\, John Lee Hooker\, Aerosmith\, Bonnie Raitt\, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined an “Oakland soul” sound as instantly recognizable as those from Castillo’s hometown\, Detroit\, as well as inspirations like Memphis and Philadelphia. \nThe future of Tower of Power is set out to be vigorous and dynamic\, and will prove to be just that for fans around the world starved for the band’s groove just the way Tower of Power likes it!

SUMMARY:David Bromberg Big Band
DESCRIPTION:With his 1971 self-titled Columbia Records release\, multi-instrumentalist\, singer and songwriter David Bromberg emerged as a wunderkind of American roots music. The disc’s blend of traditional and original material\, virtuosic musicianship and iconic cover art trumpeted the arrival of a new artist of audacious vision. \nOver the course of seven more albums for Columbia & Fantasy Records and through associations with Bob Dylan\, Jerry Jeff Walker\, John Hartford\, George Harrison\, the Grateful Dead\, Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt\, Bromberg’s reputation and following grew exponentially. However\, the incessant demands of touring finally brought the recordings and shows to an end in the early 1980s. \nA twenty-two-year drought ended in 2006 with the release of the Grammy-nominated solo effort Try Me One More Time. In 2011 David followed up with Use Me\, a typically unorthodox Bromberg-ian effort\, partnering him with Linda Ronstadt\, Vince Gill\, Los Lobos\, Dr. John\, Keb’ Mo\, John Hiatt\, Levon Helm and others as David asked them to either write or choose songs and then produce him performing them. \nTwo more albums emerged from 2013 to 2017\, Only Slightly Mad and The Blues the Whole Blues and Nothing But the Blues\, both produced by 3 x Grammy winner Larry Campbell. Recorded at Levon Helm’s Barn\, Only Slightly Mad brought the band back to David’s eclectic ‘kitchen sink’ musical philosophy\, while The Whole Blues proved Texas fiddler Johnny Gimbel’s theory that: “There are only two songs—‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and the blues.” The band skipped the ‘Banner’ and headed straight for the blues\, winning the 2017 Downbeat Critic’s Poll for Best Blues Album. \nWith David’s band settling into its current lineup: Mark Cosgrove (guitar\, mandolin\, vocals)\, Nate Grower (fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, vocals)\, Josh Kanusky (drums\, vocals) and newest member\, Suavek Zaniesienko (bass\, vocals)\, they entered the studio in mid-2019 for a different approach to record-making. The resulting album\, Big Road\, gives Bromberg fans the most intimate portrait to date of David and his band\, musically and visually. Featuring twelve new recordings\, five hi-def performance videos and a mini-documentary detailing the album’s creation\, the content rich album was released on Compass/Red House Records as a CD/DVD combo pack and gatefold vinyl album.
