SUMMARY:Henry Rollins - Good to See You 2022
DESCRIPTION:On the Good To See You 2022 tour Henry will faithfully recount the events of his life in the brief pre-COVID period since the last tour and when things got even stranger over the last several months. It’s been an interesting time to say the least and he’s got some great stories to tell. \n\nIn describing Henry Rollins\, the tendency is to try to squeeze as many labels as possible into a single sentence. “Rollins is many things\,” says The Washington Post\, “diatribist\, confessor\, provocateur\, humorist\, even motivational speaker…his is an enthusiastic and engaging chatter.” Entertainment Weekly’s list includes “Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Is there anything this guy can’t do?” TV Guide has more concisely called him a “Renaissance Man” but if Henry Rollins could be reduced to a single word\, that word would undoubtedly be “workaholic.” When he’s not traveling\, Rollins prefers a to keep a relentless schedule full of work\, with gigs as an actor\, author\, DJ\, voice-over artist and TV show host to name a few of the roles that keep his schedule full. Rollins has toured the world as a spoken word artist\, as frontman for both Rollins Band and Black Flag and as a solitary traveler with insatiable curiosity\, favoring road-less-traveled locales in places such as Nepal and Sri Lanka.

SUMMARY:Kathleen Edwards
DESCRIPTION:By 2014 Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards had released four studio albums and amassed widespread critical acclaim. She had been touring since the release of her 2012 album\, Voyageur\, and the prospect of returning home—only to start writing her way toward another album\, and another tour—felt impossibly daunting. She put her guitar away\, at least for awhile: she moved back to her hometown of Ottawa and settled down in Stittsville\, an old village on the western edge of town. A running inside joke with bandmate Jim Bryson about opening a coffee shop and naming it “Quitters” became reality. For years\, the only new music she heard was playing in the background while she served her regulars at the shop\, where she slowly started to fall in love with music again. \n“I had no desire to write\, no desire to play\,” she says of what she refers to as her “working sabbatical.” “It allowed me all the time and space I needed to even just enjoy listening to music again. There were so many times where\, if I was thinking about my own writing or playing\, my heart just wasn’t in it. Opening a cafe gave me such a clean break from the weight of what I was carrying\, I worked my ass off building a shop\, I didn’t have to be ‘just a singer’ anymore.” \nBut in 2018\, she received an unexpected phone call that changed that. Maren Morris\, a longtime fan\, invited her to Nashville for a songwriting session. Edwards accepted\, and “Good Woman\,” their collaboration\, wound up on Morris’ 2019 album\, GIRL. “It reminded me that writing and creating music is entirely my wheelhouse\, and it was so easy to just jump back in and do that\,” she says of her fortuitous time in Nashville. “Funny enough\, the third person in the room for those two days was Ian Fitchuk\, and [we] ended up starting the process of producing a record.” \nEdwards will make her long-anticipated return to music with Total Freedom\, her fifth studio album out August 14th via Dualtone Records. Written and recorded in Canada and Nashville with longtime collaborator/guitarist\, Jim Bryson\, and Grammy-winning songwriter/producer\, Fitchuk\, Total Freedom is both a return to form and a “hard reset\,” one that empowered Edwards to write and perform entirely on her terms. \nFor inspiration\, she turned to Bob Seger\, whose “Against the Wind” struck a chord with her: “The song just reveals itself in such an effortless way. I was like\, ‘That’s how I want to feel on these songs being written: that’s how I want it to feel when I play it start to finish.’” Edwards’ cloud-grazing voice and strumming achieve that as she revisits old loves\, losses and heartaches in a fresh context\, from nostalgic notes of appreciation (“Glenfern\,” inspired by her relationship with ex-husband\, collaborator and friend Colin Cripps) to treatises on grief (“Ashes to Ashes”) and slowly disintegrating romance (“Feelings Fade”). Unhesitating in her willingness to confront life’s toughest challenges\, Edwards finds the beauty in it all — a radical optimism that isn’t lost on her as she prepares to release her first album in eight years\, and navigate a complete shift in how she runs Quitters\, in the midst of a global pandemic. Total Freedom proves that she’s ready to adapt—and that she’s got staying power\, too. \n“I finally had this exhale from a year that was really hard\,” she says of the forces shaping Total Freedom. “I went through a scary experience\, extricating myself from someone\, and it was this wonderful moment of resilience when I finished the album. I am super resilient. I’m always finding ways to adjust what’s not working. I’m not gonna let someone take me down in the process. I think that calling [the record] Total Freedom was a reminder that I am a really strong person.”

SUMMARY:Rufus Wainwright - Follow the Rules
DESCRIPTION:Touring Solo in support of his new album “Unfollow the Rules”. For the first time in 7 years\, Rufus Wainwright released a brand new studio album during the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 titled “Unfollow the Rules.” Produced by Mitchell Froom\, this album is the bookend to his debut album that garnered him Best New Artist by American Rolling Stone Magazine in 1998 and can be seen as a summary and climax of all his previous albums\, a work of true maturity. It was nominated for a Grammy and Juno and has been met with great critical acclaim. \n“What I would like this album to symbolize is a coming together of all the aspects of my life which have made me a seasoned artist\,” says Wainwright. “My aim is to emulate the greats of yore whose second acts produced their finest work – Leonard Cohen when he made THE FUTURE\, when Sinatra became Sinatra in his 40s\, when Paul Simon put out GRACELAND. Pop music isn’t always about your waistline. Many songwriters improve with age. I’m flying the flag for staying alive!” \nRufus has been embarking on a worldwide tour with a spectacular three-piece band since September 2021. Fans old and new in the US and the UK so far have experienced the singer-songwriter in the absolute prime of his vocal abilities. The London Times wrote after his sold out Palladium show “When he unleashes that velvety truffle of a voice\, …you want it to go on and on.” and The Arts Desk says that “Wainwright certainly knows how to pace a concert\, and the performance he gives borders on the operatic\, pushing his voice to highs and lows that seem sometimes to defy the odds.” He now takes his band to the Pacific Northwest and across Canada. Audiences can expect a glorious mixture of deep emotion\, drama\, wit\, solace\, uplift\, entertainment and absolute musical bliss\, a journey that not many artists can take you along on.

SUMMARY:The Wood Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The Wood Brothers—bassist/vocalist Chris Wood\, guitarist/vocalist Oliver Wood\, and drummer/keyboardist Jano Rix—recently released Kingdom In My Mind\, their seventh studio release and most spontaneous (and experimental) collection yet. \n“My brother came to this band from the blues and gospel world\, and my history was all over the map with jazz and R&B\,” says Chris Wood\, who first rose to fame with the pioneering trio Medeski Martin & Wood. “The idea for this group has always been to marry our backgrounds\, to imagine what might happen if Robert Johnson and Charles Mingus had started a band.” \nKingdom is a worthy successor to 2018’s One Drop Of Truth\, which hit #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and garnered the band their first Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album.

SUMMARY:The Jayhawks
DESCRIPTION:The Jayhawks kick off the October lineup at Tarrytown Music Hall. \nThe Jayhawks and their rootsy sound were definitely swimming against the tide when they emerged from a crowded Minnesota music scene in 1985. Over the course of almost 4 decades\, 11 albums\, countless memorable live shows and enough personal drama to fill a couple of Behind the Music episodes\, this beloved band soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics\, fans and peers in the process. \n\nAfter releasing two Indie albums in the 80s The Jayhawks signed with American Recordings in 1991 and over the next decade released 5 challenging\, at times groundbreaking\, albums\, toured the world to widespread acclaim and even survived the departure of founding member Mark Olson in 1995. After a hiatus in the mid 2000s\, the “classic” 1994 lineup reunited for another new studio album in 2011 and 2 years of solid touring\, reacquainting audiences old and new with the band’s timeless musical vision. 2014 saw a late 90s version of the band led by Gary Louris hitting the road to support the reissues of the 3 Jayhawks albums released from 1997-2003. This lineup released the band’s 9th studio album in 2016\, recorded in Portland\, OR with producers Peter Buck and Tucker Martine. The band’s next studio album\, Back Roads And Abandoned Motels\, was released in the summer of 2018\, featuring Jayhawks versions of songs Gary Louris had previously written with other artists plus 2 new compositions. Recording for a new Jayhawks album was completed in Minnesota in late 2019 and in July 2020 the band released their 11th studio album\, XOXO.

SUMMARY:Violent Femmes
DESCRIPTION:Violent Femmes formed in 1981 as an acoustic punk band playing on the streets of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. Their main influences at that time were Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps and The Velvet Underground. Their goal was to rock harder than any other acoustic act on the planet. \nAfter being rejected for an audition by a local nightclub\, the Femmes set up outside a Pretenders gig and began to play. Pretenders’ lead singer Chrissie Hynde asked them to open that night’s show\, which gave the young band a publicity boost and caught the attention of Richard Hell\, who invited the Femmes to open for him in NYC. A rave review in the New York Times eventually led to a record deal\, which in turn spawned worldwide touring. \nViolent Femmes eponymous debut album became the first and only album in Billboard history to enter the charts with a platinum certification- eight years after its release. Over the ensuing three decades\, the Femmes became a mainstay of festivals\, clubs\, and theaters in more than 20 countries worldwide. \nMTV’s “Unplugged” show was inspired by the Femmes\, although they never actually appeared on it. Their raw sound and honest lyrical perspective has been cited as an influence by artists as diverse as Pink\, Keith Urban\, The Smiths\, The Pixies\, John Cusack\, Mark Morris\, and Wim Wenders. \nMore than 30 years into their careers\, Violent Femmes spent 2019 touring extensively and released Hotel Last Resort.  After the COVID shutdown they successfully completed a full US tour with Flogging Molly in 2021. US touring continues through 2022. \n2023 will mark the 40th anniversary of the bands debut album.  The songs continue to impact younger generations to this day.
