SUMMARY:Violent Femmes
DESCRIPTION:Violent Femmes formed in 1981 as an acoustic punk band playing on the streets of Milwaukee\, Wisconsin. Their main influences at that time were Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps and The Velvet Underground. Their goal was to rock harder than any other acoustic act on the planet. \nAfter being rejected for an audition by a local nightclub\, the Femmes set up outside a Pretenders gig and began to play. Pretenders’ lead singer Chrissie Hynde asked them to open that night’s show\, which gave the young band a publicity boost and caught the attention of Richard Hell\, who invited the Femmes to open for him in NYC. A rave review in the New York Times eventually led to a record deal\, which in turn spawned worldwide touring. \nViolent Femmes eponymous debut album became the first and only album in Billboard history to enter the charts with a platinum certification- eight years after its release. Over the ensuing three decades\, the Femmes became a mainstay of festivals\, clubs\, and theaters in more than 20 countries worldwide. \nMTV’s “Unplugged” show was inspired by the Femmes\, although they never actually appeared on it. Their raw sound and honest lyrical perspective has been cited as an influence by artists as diverse as Pink\, Keith Urban\, The Smiths\, The Pixies\, John Cusack\, Mark Morris\, and Wim Wenders. \nMore than 30 years into their careers\, Violent Femmes spent 2019 touring extensively and released Hotel Last Resort.  After the COVID shutdown they successfully completed a full US tour with Flogging Molly in 2021. US touring continues through 2022. \n2023 will mark the 40th anniversary of the bands debut album.  The songs continue to impact younger generations to this day.

SUMMARY:The Wailers - 2022 One World Tour

Led by renowned bassist and founder Aston “Familyman” Barrett\, and joined by original Wailers guitarist Donald Kinsey\, The Wailers give audiences around the globe the opportunity to experience their unique and innovative sound. From 1972 to 1980\, Bob Marley & The Wailers recorded\, toured\, and performed before countless millions worldwide. Since 1981\, Familyman has carried on the mission to “keep The Wailers together” – just as Bob requested. \nIn tribute to the late co-founder and drummer Carlton “Carly” Barrett\, The Wailers present Familyman’s multi-talented son\, Aston Barrett Jr. It’s startling to witness how the young powerhouse delivers with his uncle’s inspiring landmark “one drop” drumming style. Also on stage is polished background singer Shema McGregor\, daughter of I Three singer Judy Mowatt and Reggae pioneer Freddie McGregor. \nAccompanying the legends and children-of-legends on stage are many other talented musicians: bass guitarist Owen “Dreadie” Reid\, a former student of Familyman who also plays bass with Julian Marley’s Uprising band; front man Joshua David Barrett\, Rastaman by lifestyle and culture\, who delivers Bob’s powerful message of Jah love and unity through his performance and interaction with the audience; Andres Lopez on keyboards\, who has performed with artists such as Alborosie\, Lutan Fyah\, and Anthony B.; and Anne-Marie Thompson\, an experienced gospel singer. FOH/Sound engineer is Christian Cowlin\, a Wailers Band veteran who has traveled the world with The Wailers for more than 20 years and who is responsible for the band’s live sound. \nSince Bob Marley’s untimely passing in 1981\, Familyman vowed to keep a promise he made to his leader and friend – that he would hold the band together and maintain the music’s quality\, to “keep me [Bob Marley] alive through music.” The message is still Burnin’\, the Exodus of Jah people continues\, Uprising and Survival remain the call to fans. The incomparable Wailers are coming to Babylon by Bus\, to rock the stage\, to bring the magic and message of Roots Rasta Reggae. It’s a Rastaman Vibration: a slice of music history you must not miss. Legend.

SUMMARY:The Mavericks
DESCRIPTION:The Mavericks are back for their annual run at the Tarrytown Music Hall! The eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon\, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally\, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. \nNow\, The Mavericks have ushered in the fourth phase of their evolution with the #1 Billboard debut of their first-ever\, all Spanish album\, En EspanÞol\, released on the band’s own Mono Mundo label. Although all 12 tracks are in Spanish\, as the title suggests\, the collection represents a diversity of musical styles and cultural traditions\, from tender boleros to brassy mariachi to reimagined Afro-Cuban classics. Seven of the tunes are familiar gems drawn from the vast Latin American songbook\, while five are originals written or co-written by Malo. \nLike the band’s entire body of music\, this one album cannot be boxed into a single category. The songs are as diverse as Latin America itself\, and as cohesive as the ideal of the American melting pot. To season this rich musical paella\, The Mavericks add their signature country/rock/Tex-Mex flavors and a refreshing spontaneity to the mix. En EspanÞol flips the band’s usual fusion formula\, which adds a striking assortment of genres – salsa\, ska\, nortenÞo\, mariachi\, and much more – to its sturdy rock/country base. Now \, the foundation is solidly Latin with streaks of irreverent rock and twangy guitars running through it\, all branded with the unmistakable Mavericks style.
