SUMMARY:Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives
DESCRIPTION:Country Music Hall of Famer\, five-time Grammy-winner\, and AMA Lifetime Achievement honoree Marty Stuart picks up where he left off on Altitude\, his first new album in five years\, exploring a cosmic country landscape populated by dreamers and drifters\, misfits and angels\, honky-tonk heroes and lonesome lovers. \nThere’s a desert flare to the music here\, a sweeping\, spacious feel that conjures up wide-open horizons and endless stretches of two-lane highway\, and the production is raw and cinematic to match\, tipping its cap both to Bakersfield and Laurel Canyon as it balances jangle and twang in equal measure. While it would be easy for an artist as accomplished as Stuart to rest on his laurels\, Altitude instead showcases the work of a searcher with an insatiable appetite for growth and reflection\, one whose ambition\, much like his keen wit and rich imagination\, only seems to grow with each and every release. \nBorn and raised in Philadelphia\, MS\, Stuart got his start in bluegrass legend Lester Flatts’ band at the tender age of thirteen\, and by twenty-one\, he was working in the studio and on the road with Johnny Cash. Though Stuart built his early reputation backing up royalty\, it wasn’t long before Nashville recognized him as a star in his own right\, and over the course of forty-plus years as a solo artist\, he would go on to release more than twenty major label albums\, scoring platinum sales\, hit singles\, and just about every honor the industry could bestow along the way.

SUMMARY:Madison Cunningham & Juana Molina - Not That Similar Tour
DESCRIPTION:An incredible evening at Tarrytown Music Hall with two critically acclaimed singer/songwriters\, each performing their own solo set! \nMadison Cunningham is a 26-year-old GRAMMY award-winning artist and songwriter known for her “wonderfully tangled imagery and cutting self-awareness” (NPR). As a guitarist\, Madison has pushed the boundaries of a conventional singer-songwriter as her “guitar work is both classic and wildly emotive\, and her soaring vocals are pristine and inspired” (Consequence). \nMadison first picked up a guitar at age seven\, and by age twelve was singing and performing alongside her five siblings in church. In her teenage years\, she met Tyler Chester who would later go on to be a close collaborator and producer of several of Madison’s projects including Who Are You Now (2019) which Atwood Magazine described as “a guitar-driven record\, full of twisting\, meticulously arranged parts and interlocking melodies. It’s almost labyrinthine; you could get lost in her swirling words.” \nCunningham’s latest effort\, Revealer\, won the GRAMMY for ‘Best Folk Album.’ Revealer finds her working once again with producer Tyler Chester along with Mike Elizondo and Tucker Martine. Written and recorded over all states of the pandemic\, Madison says\, “To me\, Revealer is the binding theme of the album. The hand that slowly chips away at the mirror in which you see yourself and the world and replaces it with the reflection that is most true.” The album is “full of intricate musicianship\, alongside forthright observations” (All Music)\, intimations and hard truths—a self-portrait of a young artist who is full of doubt and uncertainty yet bursting with exciting ideas about music and life. \nA master of mysterious experimental pop\, Juana Molina is recognized as one of the most original and visionary artists around. Her career trajectory has been a unique one\, from her initial success as a massively popular comedic actress in her native Argentina\, to the abandonment of her television career in 1996 and her decision to devote herself to forging her own\, inimitable style of music\, which gained her worldwide recognition as a critically-lauded recording and touring artist. \nLike so many other 20-somethings\, Juana’s career aspirations were “to earn a good salary for working just a few hours”\, in order to keep free time to develop her musicianship. She knew she had a gift for doing impressions\, and went to pass an audition for a TV program. She got hired on the spot. Her popularity rose meteorically and\, three years later\, she had her own comedy show\, Juana y sus hermanas for which she invented and impersonated a series of hilariously stereotyped characters. The show was a great success\, it was syndicated throughout South America and\, within just a few years\, Juana had become the most popular comedian in Argentina. \nAfter cancelling her television show in 1994\, Molina launched her musical career. In the face of much skepticism\, Molina debuted in 1996 with Rara\, which to fans of her comedy career seemed like just another celebrity vanity project. In spite of its high quality and originality\, fans and critics in Argentina seemed unwilling to support her new career and she subsequently moved to Los Angeles. Honing her craft in a more supportive climate\, she began experimenting with electronics\, loops\, and production\, recording the tracks that would eventually make up her second album\, Segundo. \nDespite these initial difficulties\, Juana held out and stuck to her decision. Her passion and commitment to music prevailed\, and worldwide recognition began to grow. After the release of her second and 3rd album (which came out on Domino Records\, as did the next two)\, she quickly became the darling of the international indie/electronic/folk scene\, and praise began pouring in from admirers in all corners. Tres Cosas was placed in the Top Ten Records of 2004 by The New York Times\, she was championed by the likes of David Byrne and Will Oldham\, and her music — which\, although it features elements of folk\, ambient and electronica\, is highly unique and personal— was often lazily compared by critics to that of Björk or Beth Orton. But\, as The New York Times put it\, “Ms Molina doesn’t imitate anyone. She has too much fun just being herself .” \nJuana Molina has toured extensively in the US\, Europe\, and Japan (where’s she’s recently did live trio collaborations with Terry Riley and Jeff Mills). Her concert performances combine live loops\, effects created on-the-fly and her deft acoustic guitar playing\, creating a lush sounding as well as visually compelling experience.

SUMMARY:Joan Osborne + Crash Test Dummies
DESCRIPTION:Two incredible artists\, each performing their own set! Since she broke through over 25 years ago with the multi-platinum Relish and its touchstone mega-smash “One of Us\,” Joan Osborne the seven-time Grammy nominee has never played it safe. Osborne has followed her restless musical heart\, exploring a diverse range of genres: pop rock\, soul\, R&B\, blues\, roots rock\, gospel\, funk\, and country – all of which can be heard on her latest album Trouble and Strife\, along with the Western side of C&W and a touch of glam and disco. “For a lot of the record\, we were going for a ‘70s AM radio vibe\,” says Osborne. As for the lyrics\, the songs “are the most political I’ve ever written\,” she conveys of her first album of originals since 2014’s confessional Love and Hate. Osborne also produced Trouble and Strife\, primarily recorded in her basement studio in Brooklyn and released on the label she founded in 1991\, Womanly Hips. \nIn 2018\, 25 years a/er the release of their mul8-Grammy nominated hit album “God Shuffled His Feet”\, the Crash Test Dummies hit the road for the first 8me in 20 years with an Anniversary Tour that spanned North America. The overwhelming recep8on led to a 30th Anniversary Tour in 2022 for their debut release “The Ghosts That Haunt Me” that touched down in the US\, UK\, Germany\, Austria\, the Netherlands\, Luxembourg\, and Canada. And the band is showing no signs of slowing down . . . \n“Touring again was not something we’d planned on\, but surprisingly – at least to me – there are lots of people who many years later\, s8ll want to come and hear us. The folks that are coming out to see these shows tell us their stories\, some of them very funny\, some very dark and all very personal. It’s very humbling\, being in the confidence of so many people” says lead singer-songwriter Brad Roberts\, “and it has inspired us to con8nue to tour and make music.” \nEarly 2023 will see the release a new\, original Crash Test Dummies single “Sacred Alphabet“ as they again hit the road in North America and Europe.

SUMMARY:The Jayhawks
DESCRIPTION:The Jayhawks and their rootsy sound were definitely swimming against the tide when they emerged from a crowded Minnesota music scene in 1985. Over the course of almost 4 decades\, 11 albums\, countless memorable live shows and enough personal drama to fill a couple of Behind the Music episodes\, this beloved band soared to heights few ever achieve while winning the hearts and minds of numerous critics\, fans and peers in the process. \nAfter releasing two Indie albums in the 80s The Jayhawks signed with American Recordings in 1991 and over the next decade released 5 challenging\, at times groundbreaking\, albums\, toured the world to widespread acclaim and even survived the departure of founding member Mark Olson in 1995. After a hiatus in the mid 2000s\, the “classic” 1994 lineup reunited for another new studio album in 2011 and 2 years of solid touring\, reacquainting audiences old and new with the band’s timeless musical vision. 2014 saw a late 90s version of the band led by Gary Louris hitting the road to support the reissues of the 3 Jayhawks albums released from 1997-2003. This lineup released the band’s 9th studio album in 2016\, recorded in Portland\, OR with producers Peter Buck and Tucker Martine. The band’s next studio album\, Back Roads And Abandoned Motels\, was released in the summer of 2018\, featuring Jayhawks versions of songs Gary Louris had previously written with other artists plus 2 new compositions. Recording for a new Jayhawks album was completed in Minnesota in late 2019 and in July 2020 the band released their 11th studio album\, XOXO.

SUMMARY:Rodrigo y Gabriela
DESCRIPTION:Grammy Award winning duo Rodrigo y Gabriela grew up on an eclectic mix of classic rock\, heavymetal and flamenco\, a rare alchemy of influences that still informs their work today. Not long after the dissolution of their first band\, the two musicians set off with their acoustic guitars and ended up in Ireland\, where they soon ran out of money and began busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street — a turn of events that led to their crossing paths with Irish singer/songwriter Damien Rice\, who then asked them to open for him at an early headline show. \nAs they developed their distinct breed of guitar music\, Rodrigo y Gabriela quickly gained recognition for their extraordinary live show and made their full-length debut with 2002’s re-Foc. Along with turning out 8 additional acclaimed and kaleidoscopic albums over the years: including Area 52 (a 2012 effort made with a Cuban orchestra)\, 9 Dead Alive (a 2014 release that spotlighted their more rock-leaning sensibilities) and the 2020 Grammy winning Best Contemporary Instrumental Album\, Mettavolution\, the duo has cemented their status as a globally renowned live act. \nAmong their many successes: performing at The White House for the President and First Lady of Mexico at a 2010 event hosted by Barack Obama; headlining the Jazz World stage at Glastonbury; selling out major venues like the Hollywood Bowl\, Red Rocks Amphitheater\, London’s Royal Albert Hall\, Radio City Music Hall\, and the Sydney Opera House; and performing to massive crowds in such far-flung cities as Tokyo and Paris. 2023 sees the release of their most ambitious project yet\, the Advaita Vedanta inspired In Between Thoughts…A New World\, which features their signature dual guitar attack augmented by a full orchestra\, and a corresponding world tour.

SUMMARY:The Machine Performs Pink Floyd
DESCRIPTION:The Machine has forged a 30+ year reputation of extending the musical legacy of Pink Floyd. The New York-based quartet performs a diverse mix of The Floyd’s extensive 16-album repertoire\, complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems. With stellar musicianship and passionate delivery\, The Machine explores collective improvisation rivaling that of an early 1970’s Pink Floyd\, while their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays and lighting continues The Floyd spirit of the 1980’s. The band is also known for recreating entire albums as a part of their show\, accepting requests from fans\, and for taking an A – Z approach in which one song is played for every letter of the alphabet. \nThe Machine has sold out theaters\, premier showcase rooms and casinos across North America\, Europe and Asia\, performed at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo\, Riverbend\, and Gathering of the Vibes\, and shared the stage with full symphony orchestras\, including the Atlanta\, Detroit\, Pittsburgh\, Jacksonville\, Charlotte and San Diego Symphonies\, as well as the Buffalo Philharmonic. The band features founding member Tahrah Cohen (drums)\, longtime bandmates Scott Chasolen (keys\, vocals) and Ryan Ball (guitar\, vocals)\, and newest member Chris DeAngelis (bass\, lead vocals). SUMMARY:Jazz Is Dead
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Is Dead: Explorations Into The Music of Grateful Dead\nThe legacy all-star instrumental ensemble\, famous for interpretations of classic Grateful Dead songs with jazz influences\, (re)assembled a killer line-up to immense critical and fan acclaim\, and box office success in January. To celebrate its 25thAnniversary\, original bassist Alphonso Johnson joined by Steve Kimock\, Pete Lavezzoli & Bobby Lee Rodgers\, performing songs from Grateful Dead’s ‘Wake of the Flood’\, in addition to other beloved selections. Reuniting Steve Kimock & Alphonso Johnson\, whom together in heavyweight post-Garcia Grateful Dead off-shoot The Other Ones\, along with Bob Weir\, commanded the instrumental prowess of that band that shines in Jazz Is Dead.Formed in 1998 by bassist Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report\, Santana\, Bobby & The Midnites\, The Other Ones)\, drummer Billy Cobham (Miles Davis\, Mahavishnu Orchestra\, Bobby & The Midnites)\, keyboardist T Lavitz (Dixie Dregs) & guitarist Jimmy Herring (Aquarium Rescue Unit\, Widespread Panic)\, with drummers Rod Morgenstern (Dixie Dregs) & Jeff Sipe (Leftover Salmon) replacing Cobham in 1999\, and guitarist Jeff Pevar (CSN\, David Crosby CPR\, Phil Lesh & Friends) replacing Herring in 2000\, recorded 3 acclaimed albums\, the second of which ‘Laughing Water’ in 1999 was in fact an instrumental ‘Wake of the Flood’ reinterpretation -so there is precedent. SUMMARY:Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets
DESCRIPTION:Nick Lowe has made his mark as a producer (Elvis Costello-Graham Parker-Pretenders-The Damned)\, songwriter of at least three songs you know by heart\, short-lived career as a pop star\, and a lengthy term as a musicians’ musician. But in his current ‘second act’ as a silver-haired\, tender-hearted but sharp-tongued singer-songwriter\, he has no equal. \nStarting with 1995′s ‘The Impossible Bird’ through to 2011′s ‘The Old Magic\,’ Nick has turned out a fantastic string of albums\, each one devised in his West London home\, and recorded with a core of musicians who possess the same veteran savvy. Lowe brings wit and understated excellence to every performance\, leading Ben Ratliff of the New York Times to describe his live show as “elegant and nearly devastating.” \nLos Straitjackets are the leading practitioners of the lost art of the guitar instrumental. Using the music of the Ventures\, The Shadows\, and with Link Wray and Dick Dale as a jumping off point\, the band has taken their unique\, high energy brand of original rock & roll around the world. Clad in their trademark Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling masks\, the “Jackets” have delivered their trademark guitar licks to 16 albums\, thousands of concerts and dozens of films and TV shows.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Peter Yarrow & Noel Paul Stookey
DESCRIPTION:Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey carry on the tradition of the renowned folk music group Peter\, Paul and Mary–a union that lasted 50 years. Peter\, Paul and Mary arrived on the scene in Greenwich Village in the early 1960’s and at the time\, for the majority of America\, folk was viewed merely as a sidebar to pop music. \nThe nation was still recovering from the McCarthy era and the Cold War was heating up. Peter Yarrow\, Noel (Paul) Stookey and Mary Travers came together to reclaim folk’s potency as a social\, cultural and political force. The Trio lived their songs. They sang at the 1963 March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech\, they participated in the Selma to Montgomery March\, they sang at countless anti-Vietnam War rallies and they launched decades of musical activism. These individual and collective efforts addressed a wide range of issues from women’s rights\, to farm-worker rights to the environment\, education and issues of gun violence. No American folk group lasted longer or amassed a more loyal following than Peter\, Paul and Mary. During their legendary career\, the trio won five Grammy’s\, produced 13 top 40 hits of which six ascended into the top 10\, and earned eight gold and five platinum albums.

SUMMARY:Amos Lee with Special Guest Mikaela Davis
DESCRIPTION:Amos Lee\, born Ryan Anthony Massaro\, in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania\, has carved a niche for himself in the music industry with his distinctive blend of folk\, rock\, soul\, and jazz. Known for his smooth voice and emotionally rich songwriting\, Lee’s journey from a humble teaching background to becoming a renowned singer-songwriter is a testament to his talent and perseverance.\nLee’s big break came when he was discovered by Norah Jones’ bassist\, Lee Alexander\, at an open mic night in New York City. Impressed by his talent\, Alexander introduced Lee to Jones\, who invited him to open for her on tour. This opportunity catapulted Lee into the spotlight and helped him secure a recording contract with Blue Note Records. \nIn 2005\, Amos Lee released his self-titled debut album\, which received critical acclaim and showcased his gift for blending soulful vocals with heartfelt lyrics. The album’s success led to tours with legendary artists such as Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello\, further solidifying Lee’s position in the music world. Lee’s follow-up albums\, including “Supply and Demand” (2006)\, “Last Days at the Lodge” (2008)\, “Mission Bell” (2011)\, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart\, “Mountains of Sorrow\, Rivers of Song” (2013)\, and “Spirit” (2016)\, have continued to earn praise for their depth\, sincerity\, and musical diversity. Each record explores new themes and sounds\, reflecting Lee’s growth as an artist and his willingness to experiment while staying true to his roots. \nMikaela Davis is a talented American harpist\, singer-songwriter\, and musician\, known for her unique blend of indie pop\, folk\, and rock music with the classical harp. She stands out in the indie music scene for her ethereal vocals\, intricate harp playing\, and skillful songwriting\, which often explores themes of love\, self-discovery\, and emotional introspection.

SUMMARY:The Bacon Brothers Freestanding Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Bacon Brothers have spent the better part of three decades exploring their own mix of folk\, rock\, soul\, and country music. They call that diverse sound “forosoco\,” and it’s taken them around the world\, from headlining gigs in Japan to American performances at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall\, the Grand Ole Opry and Gruene Hall. \nThe exploration continues with the band’s twelfth release\, Ballad Of The Brothers. It’s a record that highlights not only the similarities between Kevin Bacon (known worldwide as an A-list Hollywood actor) and Michael Bacon (celebrated as an Emmy-winning composer)\, but the differences\, too. The two siblings may be bound together by blood and a mutual love of American roots music\, but they’ve grown into sharp songwriters and cinematic storytellers with their own distinct approaches. Ballad Of The Brothers makes room for both of those approaches\, offering a mix of edgy alt-rock (“Take Off This Tattoo”)\, Motown-inspired soul (“Put Your Hand Up”)\, fingerpicked folk (“Let That Be Enough”)\, and everything in between. The album also marks the continuation of a musical partnership that began long ago in Philadelphia\, where the Bacons were raised on a soundtrack of 1970s singer/songwriters\, Philly soul bands\, and classic rock acts. Multiple decades and countless shows later\, they’re creating their own soundtrack\, saluting their old-school influences while making music that’s undeniably modern.
