SUMMARY:A Year With Frog and Toad
DESCRIPTION:Based on Arnold Lobel’s beloved children’s books and featuring a jazzy\, upbeat score by Robert and Willie Reale that bubbles with melody and wit\, the show is an inventive\, exuberant\, and enchanting experience for the whole family. This whimsical musical follows two great friends — the cheerful\, popular Frog and the curmudgeonly Toad — through four\, fun-filled seasons\, meeting new friends like Man Bird and Lady Bird; Father\, Mother and Young Frog; Turtle; Squirrel and many more along the way. Waking from hibernation in the Spring\, Frog and Toad plant gardens\, swim\, rake leaves\, go sledding\, and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in their differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville\, part make believe\, all charm\, A Year With Frog And Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures\, weathering all seasons. \nThe beloved pair is entering a new era with Frog and Toad\, an animated series of eight episodes\, each containing two stories\, wich debuted April 28\, 2023 on Apple TV+. Of the 16 short stories on screen\, six are new additions\, and the rest were adapted from the books. The series is executive produced by Lobel’s children\, Adrianne and Adam Lobel\, who hope the show will reintroduce new audiences to their father’s work.

SUMMARY:A (Mostly) Acoustic Evening: Barber and Magner of The Disco Biscuits
DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia’s Disco Biscuits established a name for themselves in the live music space by cultivating their own “trance-fusion” genre\, which is often characterized by futuristic sounds\, fast flying notes\, and club-thumping beats. Images of their legendary concerts reveal packed audiences dancing under a sea of sound and lasers\, while the band navigates the unknown\, taking fans with them on long\, improvisational journeys. But strip that away and you’ll find that their foundation is built on the fundamentals — great songs with evocative lyrics and addictive hooks. \nFor the first time ever\, Disco Biscuits’ Jon Gutwillig (guitar) and Aron Magner (keyboards) plan to bring it back down to those building blocks\, showcasing these lived-in songs in a brand new setting as an acoustic duo. \n“It’s fascinating to interpret our catalogue in this way and to still find new and unique qualities to them” says Gutwillig after his first acoustic rehearsal with Magner\, where they just had a guitar\, a piano\, and a set of songs that Disco Biscuits audiences know by heart. But even without all that electricity\, perhaps the most enticing expectation for this show is that fans can still expect to embark on the improvisational-heavy adventures that the Disco Biscuits are celebrated for.

SUMMARY:Josh Ritter: Special Trio Show w/ Mark Erelli & Zachariah Hickman
DESCRIPTION:This is a special\, intimate show at Tarrytown Music Hall with a stripped down trio version of Josh Ritter and his band\, featuring Mark Erelli and Zachariah Hickman. \nRitter is a renowned singer\, songwriter\, musician\, artist and best-selling author. One of today’s most thoughtful and prolific voices\, he has released eleven studio albums including 2019’s widely acclaimed\, Fever Breaks\, of which NPR Music praised\, “He remains a hydrant of ideas while embodying an endless capacity for empathy and indignation\, often within a single song.” \n\nIn addition to his work as a musician\, Ritter is also a national best-selling author\, having released two novels to date: 2021’s The Great Glorious Goddamn of It All and 2011’s Bright’s Passage. Released to critical attention\, Stephen King wrote in The New York Times Book Review that Bright’s Passage “shines with a compressed lyricism that recalls Ray Bradbury in his prime…This is the work of a gifted novelist.” \n“Josh Ritter remains at the top of his game two decades into a highlight-strewn career. He’d be forgiven for loosening his grip\, but his hand has never felt surer.”\n– NPR Music \n“Harking back to Bob Dylan\, Bruce Springsteen and maybe a little Mark Knopfler\, Mr. Ritter has always been a slinger of serious ideas and high-flown imagery.”\n– The New York Times \n“Mysterious\, melancholy\, melodic…and those are only the M’s.”\n– Stephen King in Entertainment Weekly

SUMMARY:Megan Moore\, mezzo-soprano\, with Francesco Barfoed
DESCRIPTION:Megan Moore had a busy opera season in 2024\, appearing as Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” with San Diego Opera\, as Rosina in “The Barber of Seville” with Seattle Opera and as Sesto in “Julius Caesar” with Opera Theater of Saint Louis. She also performed in several New York-area recitals. She is acclaimed for her Rossini interpretations\, “elegant vocal gymnastics\,” and “rapid-fire coloratura.” Besides Rosina\, another of Moore’s signature roles is the title role in “La Cenerentola.” When she appeared as Doraballa in “Così fan tutte” at Juilliard\, OperaWire praised her “undeniable sex appeal” and “strength as an actress.” \nHer collaborator\, pianist Francesco Barfoed\, seems to like accompanying singers\, since he and Moore won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2020 and he won again in 2022 with baritone Joseph Parrish\, whom we presented last season. Moore and Barfoed also won first prize in the Copenhagen Lied-Duo Competition and second prize at the Naumberg Foundation International Vocal Competition.
