SUMMARY:The Grass Roots & The Association
DESCRIPTION:Stars of the 60s return to Tarrytown Music Hall – it’s like two concerts in one night with two of the biggest hit-makers from the greatest era of American music ever! In the entire history of rock and roll\, only 9 bands have had more hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 than The Grass Roots. They charted 29 singles\, 13 of which went gold followed by 2 gold albums and 1 platinum album.  For almost 50 years they have been one of the most recognized groups on Classic Rock stations across the country with over 20 million records sold worldwide.  Hits include “Midnight Confessions\,” “Temptation Eyes\,” “I’d Wait a Million Years\,” “Live for Today\,” “Sooner or Later\,” and dozens more. Joining them will be The Association who have sold over 80 million records\, tapes\, CDs and DVDs\, earning 6 gold and 3 platinum discs along with 7 Grammy Award nominations. “Windy\,” “Cherish\,” “Along Comes Mary\,” “Never My Love” and “Everything That Touches You” receive almost as much airplay today as they ever have\, and on Sunday\, October 1st\, you’ll get to hear them all live. Don’t miss this one-night-only reunion! \nThe nation was still recovering from the McCarthy era and the Cold War was heating up. Peter Yarrow\, Noel (Paul) Stookey and Mary Travers came together to reclaim folk’s potency as a social\, cultural and political force.  The Trio lived their songs. They sang at the 1963 March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his “I Have a Dream” speech\, they participated in the Selma to Montgomery March\, they sang at countless anti-Vietnam War rallies and they launched decades of musical activism.  These individual and collective efforts addressed a wide range of issues from women’s rights\, to farm-worker rights to the environment\, education and issues of gun violence. No American folk group lasted longer or amassed a more loyal following than Peter\, Paul and Mary. During their legendary career\, the trio won five Grammy’s\, produced 13 top 40 hits of which six ascended into the top 10\, and earned eight gold and five platinum albums.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Richard Shindell & Lucy Kaplansky
DESCRIPTION:Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell are delighted to announce a limited run of shows together in the Northeast in October 2023. The two songwriters\, both with successful solo careers\, have been singing together for over 30 years. First meeting when Richard hired Lucy to sing harmony on his first album\, they became life-long friends and mutual fans. In addition to singing harmonies on virtually all of each other’s solo albums\, they’ve collaborated on two celebrated projects. In 1998 they teamed up with their friend Dar Williams to record Cry Cry Cry. In 2015 Lucy and Richard recorded an album of duets\, Tomorrow You’re Going. \n\nThe two voices have always somehow understood each other. When it comes to dynamics and the actual harmonies (which intervals\, and when)\, they put their faith in their vocal sympatico\, in which one voice instinctively finds its resolution (or intentional irresolution!) in the other. The simple pleasure of blending voices has been a constant for each throughout all the twists and turns of their respective careers. For these upcoming concerts\, Lucy and Richard will perform songs from the aforementioned projects as well as material from their individual repertoires. \nLucy Kaplansky released seven critically acclaimed solo albums on Red House Records\, two of which won the AFIM award for “Best Pop Album\,” and her album “Ten Year Night” is Red House’s best selling album of all time. Scott Simon of NPR said of Lucy’s latest independent release Last Days of Summer (2022) “utterly beautiful and affecting … Lucy sings songs from her life with resonance in ours.” Lucy’s version of Roxy Music’s “More than This” has over 12 million streams on Spotify\, and she has appeared on the CBS Morning Show\, NPR’s Weekend and Morning Editions and All Things Considered\, Mountain Stage\, and West Coast Live. Her voice has remained in high demand by her peers\, and she can be heard on releases by Shawn Colvin\, Bryan Ferry and Nanci Griffith. \nRichard Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures\, tell stories\, juxtapose disparate images\, and inhabit characters\, vividly evoking little worlds and expanding our sense of what it is a song may be. From his first record\, Sparrow’s Point (1992) through his latest release Careless (2016)\, he’s been exploring the possibilities offered by the genre\, bringing his own unmistakable slant to the craft of songwriting. Along the way\, his third release\, Reunion Hill (1998) won the AFIM award for “Best Contemporary Folk Album”. Its title track\, along with two other of his songs\, were covered by Joan Baez on her 1997 release\, Gone From Danger. Now living in Argentina\, Richard has mostly stopped touring\, making this a rare opportunity to hear his songs in person.

Come early to experience Westchester’s best Halloween event! \nA Halloween weekend tradition continues! The Mavericks return to rock the Tarrytown Music Hall! once again….One of our favorite weekends of the year! \nThe eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon\, has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. And finally\, a triumphant reunion in 2012 which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. \nNow\, The Mavericks are releasing a new album that ushers in the fourth phase of their evolution. “It’s like we’ve had three different lives\,” says Raul Malo\, the band’s lead singer and songwriter\, “and now this is a whole new beginning. We’re sort of going into uncharted territory. I’m looking forward to it and I’m kind of nervous about it too. Entitled simply En Español\, it is produced by Malo and the band’s long-time collaborator Niko Bolas (Neil Young\, Prince\, Sheryl Crow).
