SUMMARY:Myths & Mysteries of The Octagon House
DESCRIPTION:A Halloween-season guided tour at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nFor generations\, the eight-sided Armour-Stiner Octagon House has inspired whispered local legends\, and this fall its guides are opening the door to them. Myths & Mysteries is an hour-long guided tour through the National Historic Landmark that goes beyond architecture and furnishings to explore the strange stories\, unexplained happenings\, and firsthand accounts left behind by the people who once lived there. Along the way\, history and the otherworldly blur together\, and visitors leave with a new sense of just how unusual this Hudson Valley landmark really is. Want a taste of the lore before you go? Read Ghosts of the Octagon House for the stories of the fragrant spirit and the Lady in White. \nThe experience continues after the tour with Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. Spanning ancient artifacts to contemporary pieces\, it looks at how earlier generations faced death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nIt’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. \nDetails: Tickets are $38 per person and required for every guest. Timed entry varies by day. Because the tour frequently touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.

SUMMARY:'Tis the Wind and Nothing More
DESCRIPTION:An immersive Halloween-season tour with a performance of “The Raven” at the Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, Irvington\, NY \nFor two October weekends only\, the Armour-Stiner Octagon House goes back more than a century to host a literary evening. Guests are welcomed as visitors to the annual salon of Jessie Clarke\, one of the most puzzling people ever to live in the eight-sided house. Wealthy relatives set the house aside for her\, and she lived there for 25 years until her death in 1933\, reportedly mostly alone. Much about her remains unclear\, including the state of her health in those years\, which was never documented and is still debated. This 75-minute immersive tour mixes the house’s real history with a hint of the uncanny. It ends with a dramatic reading of “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe himself. \nAfter the performance\, guests can visit Remember You Must Die\, an exhibition drawn from Ryan Matthew Cohn’s Memento Mori collection. With objects ranging from ancient artifacts to contemporary works\, it explores how earlier generations dealt with death through art\, ritual\, remembrance\, and spiritual practice. \nFor fans of Poe\, Victorian mystery\, or theatrical history\, it’s a fitting stop on any October outing in Sleepy Hollow Country. \nDetails: Performances run over two October weekends: Friday and Saturday\, October 2–3 and 9–10\, at 4:00 pm and 5:45 pm\, and Sunday\, October 4 and 11\, at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets are $58 per person and required for every guest. Because the tour often touches on 19th-century illness\, disaster\, and death\, it’s open to ages 12 and up. The route includes three flights of stairs and extended standing\, so it isn’t accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. SUMMARY:The Masquerade of the Red Death
DESCRIPTION:Step into a night of gothic splendor and inescapable doom at The Masquerade of the Red Death Halloween Party.\nHeld within the soaring\, vaulted Gothic halls of Lyndhurst Mansion\, this exclusive gathering transforms our historic estate into Prince Prospero’s final\, desperate refuge. Guests will indulge in opulent revelry\, completely shut off from the outside world\, until the clock strikes and reality sets in. \nExperience the mansion transformed into the doomed masquerade of Poe’s short story\, filled with vibrant colors and bizarre\, beautiful decorations\, with drinks\, a feast\, and sweets for guests to gorge on. The air will be heavy with music and laughter\, creating a scene where “the age of the masquerade was rife with mirth.” \nPrince Prospero demands his guests come in costume\, but standard Halloween costumes will not suffice for this dark celebration. Guests must dress to match the eccentric\, feverish imagination of Prince Prospero himself – prizes will be given for the revelers with the best costumes. \n“There were buffoons\, there were improvisatori\, there were ballet-dancers\, there were musicians\, there was Beauty\, there was wine… There were grotesque realities… there were much of the beautiful\, much of the wanton\, much of the bizarre.” \nAttire should be decadent\, surreal\, and grand. The story takes place in the Middle Ages\, but feel free to give your creative spin to the “masquerade” theme. Masks are a must. \nAges 21 and older.

SUMMARY:Ghost Tours of Tarrytown Music Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join this guided tour created by Master Storyteller Jonathan Kruk and discover the historic lore and spirits that linger at The Tarrytown Music Hall. \nThe Tarrytown Music Hall was built in 1885 during the Millionaire’s Colony Era when mansions dotted the Hudson Valley landscape and families such as the Rockefellers\, Goulds and Vanderbilts gathered at the Music Hall to participate in its lavish balls\, flower shows and concerts. Since then\, the Music Hall has been a reflection of the human spirit\, mirroring the current events of the town and the rest of the world. In addition to Presidents’ speeches\, it has hosted women’s suffrage rallies and endured several wars\, depressions and pandemics including those of 1918 and 2019. It is a vessel through which many people pass. And some don’t leave . . . \nThe building is an official site of the Haunted History Trail of New York. Gotham Paranormal Research Society has investigated the Music Hall several times and has consistently detected paranormal activity including intriguing EVP (electronic voice phenomena) audio files and EMF (electromagnetic field) readings. \nThe 45-minute tour kicks off in the theater lobby and does include climbing stairs and extended periods of standing. Times vary by date. \n2026 Dates: October 3\, 4\, 10\, 11\, 17\, 18. \nMake a night of it\nThe Music Hall’s ghost tours land right in the heart of Halloween in Sleepy Hollow Country. Pair yours with dinner at one of Tarrytown’s restaurants a short walk away\, or check what else is on the Hall’s stage that weekend at Tarrytown Music Hall Performances.

SUMMARY:Tours of Historic Christ Church (Washington Irving's Parish)
DESCRIPTION:Now expanded to four Saturdays this fall\, join a guided tour through the history and architecture of historic Christ Church San Marcos\, Washington Irving’s own parish. See the beautiful stained glass memorial windows\, learn the stories behind them\, and visit Irving’s marked pew along with other memorabilia from his years as warden and vestryman of the church. \nDocents will be on hand to walk you through the church’s nearly 200-year history — from its founding in 1836 to its role in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” lore. \nTours are offered at four time slots each Saturday (see schedule above). Suggested donations of $10/person help support general operations\, and $15/person directly supports the church’s Historic Preservation Fund — though free registration is also available for anyone who’d like to join without donating. Reserve your spot at ccsmtny.org/tours. \nNote: Tours will not run on October 24\, due to road closures for the Tarrytown Halloween Parade that day. Instead\, mark your calendar for October 17\, when Christ Church hosts an Open House during the Fall Fair — with self-guided tours and docents available throughout the day\, no reservation required. \n\n\n\nDate\nTimes\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, September 26\n11:00 AM\, 12:00 PM\, 1:00 PM\n\n\nSaturday\, October 3\n11:00 AM\, 12:00 PM\, 1:00 PM\, 2:00 PM\n\n\nSaturday\, October 10\n11:00 AM\, 12:00 PM\, 1:00 PM\, 2:00 PM\n\n\nSaturday\, October 31\n11:00 AM\, 12:00 PM\, 1:00 PM\, 2:00 PM

SUMMARY:Tarrytown Lighthouse in Sleepy Hollow Tours
DESCRIPTION:Step inside one of the Hudson River’s most beloved landmarks. Join a 45-minute interpreter-led tour of the Tarrytown Lighthouse in Sleepy Hollow and discover the story of this 1883 cast-iron “sparkplug” light — from its years guiding steamships past dangerous shoals to the keepers and families who once called its five-story tower home. \nNow restored to its historic appearance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places\, the lighthouse sits at the water’s edge in Kingsland Point Park\, reached by a scenic 10-minute stroll from either inside Kingsland Point Park or from the RiverWalk entrance at the foot of Beekman Avenue. \nTours are free; reservations are required and parking fees may apply. Please note: the lighthouse is accessed by four narrow stairways\, there are no restrooms inside (restrooms are available in the park)\, and the front gate locks 15 minutes after the tour begins. Tours run rain or shine.

Free on-site parking is limited\, so carpooling is encouraged\, and guests should arrive no more than 15 minutes early.
