Their influence is evident in the expansion of the main house from a country villa to a Gothic mansion\, the park-like design of the grounds\, and the rich furnishings and decorations inside. \nTours begin in April on Saturdays and Sundays\, expand to Thursday through Monday in May\, and Thursday through Tuesday in July. In late September\, the mansion transforms for the Halloween season with special collections and decorations out on display. The site closes in November as the mansion changes to the splendor of the Holiday season and re-opens the Friday after Thanksgiving for tours\, which run until the end of December. \n\nClassic Mansion Tour: Great for first-time visitors. DESCRIPTION:The Old Croton Aqueduct\, New York City’s original water supply\, runs from\, Croton-on-Hudson into the Bronx and Manhattan\, passing through Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. For most of its length\, the Aqueduct is a horseshoe-shaped brick tunnel 8.5 feet high by 7.5 feet wide\, set on a stone foundation and protected with an earthen cover and stone facing at embankment walls. Don’t miss this rare chance to enter one of the historic water diversion chamber to view the tunnel itself! \nThis is a free\, easy\, 2-hour tour operated by Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct. Meet at the benches in front of the Joseph Caputo Center\, which is located at 95 Broadway\, Ossining\, NY 10562\, just west of Rte. 9/Highland Ave. at the junction of Croton Ave. (Rte. 133) (from Metro-North Ossining Train Station by taxi or 15-minute uphill walk). (Parking lots nearby) After a brief walk\, descend into the Weir in Ossining and explore the original 1842 brick water tunnel and learn its history. \nRequired: pre-registration (limited number); bring masks\, and social distancing. Walk will be rescheduled if weather does not cooperate.

Your visit covers the two main floors of the house.\nUpstairs/Downstairs Tour: Covers the main floors of the mansion with the addition of the backstairs and service spaces.\nInside/Outside Tour: Covers the main floors of the mansion\, then progresses through recently restored “outdoor rooms” in the rockeries\, rare trees\, gardens and outbuildings.\nLyndhurst Ramble Tour: In celebration of the Hudson River Valley Ramble\, a two- walking tour of the historic estate.\nDaily Grounds Pass: Enjoy the landscape; no tour\, no entry to mansion.\n\nLocation: Lyndhurst is a 67-acre estate\, with 15 individual buildings. All tour ticket holders should check in at the Carriage House Welcome Center\, where all tours begin. The Welcome Center is only open on days that tours are running. Finally\, the tour will continue inside the house with an interior tour of the first\, second and third floors\, which retain their magnificent ornamentation and furnishings.
