SUMMARY:The Pinkster Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join Philipsburg Manor for a day filled with art\, poetry\, live music\, dance\, and storytelling that celebrates and commemorates the region’s African American history and culture. \nPinkster (the Dutch word for Pentecost) is the oldest African American holiday. It began as the only time when enslaved Africans in New Netherlands were given an opportunity to rest from their forced labor and reunite with loved ones. Over the centuries\, Pinkster grew into a multifaceted celebration of African culture\, featuring music\, dance\, drumming\, storytelling and foodways that enabled enslaved and free Black Americans to reclaim their heritage and served as a form of joyful resistance against oppression. \nPhilipsburg Manor began celebrating Pinkster in 1977\, making this event the longest-running recreation of Pinkster in North America. The Pinkster Festival is curated by Malik Work and presented by Historic Hudson Valley.

Coming by rail is easy — see our guide to visiting Sleepy Hollow without a car.\n\n\n\nBest for: Browsers and grazers. SUMMARY:Blessing of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Blessing of the Animals at Christ Church! Furry friends\, fish & fowl\, snakes\, bugs\, and every creature in between are welcome — pets and people of all faiths\, and no faith\, are invited to join this joyful\, rain-or-shine tradition marking the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. \nThe Blessing takes place in front of the historic church. All pets should be leashed or in carriers. \nChrist Church holds a special place in Sleepy Hollow history: Washington Irving\, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\, followed the Rev. Dr. William Creighton to this parish from Zion Episcopal in Dobbs Ferry. Irving served as vestryman\, warden\, and Sunday School teacher here until his death in 1859 — the ivy on the church’s walls was cut from his home\, Sunnyside\, and his pew is still marked in the sanctuary today. \nCome celebrate the bond between people and animals in one of Sleepy Hollow Country’s most historic settings.

SUMMARY:Christ Church/San Marcos Annual Fall Fair
DESCRIPTION:Christ Church San Marcos\, the historic Episcopal parish in Tarrytown where Washington Irving once worshipped\, brings back its beloved Fall Fair on October 17\, 2026\, from 10 am to 4 pm — free and open to all. Now in its 187th year\, the fair is one of Sleepy Hollow Country’s longest-running community traditions\, tracing back to a fundraiser held by the church’s Ladies’ Sewing Society in 1839. \nBrowse the Boutique for art\, jewelry\, and collectibles\, hunt for deals in the White Elephant sale\, or go thrifting for vintage finds at the Clothing Closet. Take a break at the International Café for lunch and homemade treats\, then enjoy live music\, and crafts and games for kids — a fun day out for the whole family. Don’t miss a historic tour of the church itself for a glimpse of old Tarrytown. \nA living piece of Sleepy Hollow history: Founded in 1836\, Christ Church grew from a small country church into the gothic-revival landmark that stands today\, and merged with its sister parish\, St. Mark’s\, in 1952. Washington Irving — author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” — was a devoted parishioner\, serving as vestryman\, warden\, and Sunday School teacher until his death in 1859; his pew is still marked in the sanctuary\, and the ivy on the church walls was cut from his home\, Sunnyside. Today the parish\, led by the Rev. William M. Baker\, continues that spirit of community service: its church hall has housed the Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown since 2009\, and it also runs a Clothing Closet\, the Susan Fund youth scholarship program\, Saturday night concerts\, and the annual Day of Defiant Hope social justice forum. \n\nMake a Day of It \nThe Fall Fair runs 10 AM–4 PM\, so it pairs easily with other free shopping events happening the same day nearby. \n\nTaSH Farmers Market (Tarrytown) — 8:30 AM–1:30 PM\, free. Fresh Hudson Valley produce\, bread\, flowers\, wine & beer. A good first stop before the Fall Fair opens.\nHudson Valley Writers Center Goblin Market (Sleepy Hollow) — 10 AM–3 PM\, free. Hudson Valley Writers Center opens its historic building for an October pop up with local artists and creators! Drop in for artwork\, crafts\, and other goods from Sleepy Hollow creators.\nWarner Library Fall Book Sale (Tarrytown) — 10 AM–5 PM\, free. Browse for books to round out the goods-and-crafts theme.
