SUMMARY:Christ Church Fall Fair
DESCRIPTION:Christ Episcopal Church in Tarrytown\, where Washington Irving once worshipped\, is thrilled to bring back its Fall Fair in 2024! From 10 am to 4 pm\, visitors can shop for books\, vintage clothing\, jewelry\, toys\, and more. Don’t forget to stop by the International Café and Bake Sale for delicious homemade treats. There will also be crafts and games for children\, making it a fun day for the whole family. \nThis festival at Tarrytown’s historic Christ Episcopal Church San Marcos serves as the church’s major annual fundraiser. With a variety of attractions\, including a boutique featuring jewelry\, artwork\, trinkets\, and collectibles\, the White Elephants bargain section\, and even sports equipment and electronics\, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. \nFounded in 1836\, Christ Church San Marcos has grown and adapted to meet the needs of its local community. For years\, the church hall has been home to the Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow. The church also offers additional services\, including a Clothing Closet\, a scholarship fund that helps local youth attend summer enrichment programs\, a series of Saturday night concerts\, and an annual Day of Defiant Hope social justice forum. \n  \n\nWashington Irving\, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\,” followed the Rev. Dr. William Creighton to this church from Zion Episcopal in Dobbs Ferry. Irving was a vestryman\, warden\, Sunday School teacher\, and regular parishioner at Christ Church until his death in 1859. The ivy on the church walls is from cuttings taken at Irving’s home\, Sunnyside\, and his pew is still marked in the front of the sanctuary.

It’s got everything from “witchy” brews to a costume contest\, perfect for those who think their scarecrow outfit is next-level fabulous. The day kicks off with a Drag Queen Story Hour (because why not?)\, followed by live music\, old-school games\, a raffle\, and a chance to craft your own wand. Expect prizes\, laughs\, and more treats than tricks. It’s Halloween\, but with glitter and sass! \n\n9 am – 10 am Drag Queen Story Hour by the Wicked Witch and the Good Witch\n10 am – 12 pm Live Music by Marianna Overdrive\n9 am – 11 am Decorate a trick or treat bag with Kids Upcycling Club\n11 am – 1 pm Foraged Wands Craft by The Wreath Forager\n\n\nYou may ask yourself\, why there is a Good Witch Coffee Bar and a Scarecrow’s Ball in the land of the Headless Horseman? The Hastings-on-Hudson Historical Society explains: “Mary William Ethelbert Appleton ‘Billie’ Burke\, best known as the good witch Glinda in the 1939 film version of ‘The Wizard of Oz\,’ began her film and stage career in 1907. She was 24 years old and already a star when she bought the Kirkham estate on Broadway in Hastings in 1910. The estate possessed a fine mansion that Billie re-christened Burkeley Crest.”

SUMMARY:The Pinkster Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join Philipsburg Manor for a day filled with art\, poetry\, live music\, dance\, and storytelling that celebrates and commemorates the region’s African American history and culture. \nHear a spoken word performance\, dance to the beat of African kora\, observe an artist in process\, participate in a call-and-response song\, and more. \nBrought to the New World by the Dutch\, Pinkster became an important holiday for enslaved Africans\, who celebrated with dance\, music\, storytelling\, and games. Pinkster provided one of the few opportunities for enslaved men and women to travel to family members. It was a time of celebration\, but the condition of enslavement was still the harsh reality of life. \nPhilipsburg Manor began celebrating Pinkster in 1977\, making this event the longest-running recreation of Pinkster in North America. \nThe Pinkster Festival is curated by Malik Work and presented by Historic Hudson Valley.

SUMMARY:Christ Church Spring Fling
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the arrival of spring with live jazz\, refreshments\, a silent auction\, raffles\, and fun! All proceeds benefit Christ Church San Marcos outreach in the local community and around the world. \n\nWashington Irving\, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\,” followed the Rev.
