SUMMARY:Live Talks NY presents Andy Serkis
DESCRIPTION:Andy Serkis discussing his memoir\, My Pressures: The Bizarrely True Story of Andy Serkis \nSeats in the Orchestra include a signed copy of My Pressures: The Bizarrely True Story of Andy Serkis. \nAndy Serkis is best known for his portrayal of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy\, a role that brought him international recognition. He went on to play King Kong in Peter Jackson’s King Kong\, Caesar in the Planet of the Apes films\, and Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars\, among others. Additional credits include acclaimed performances in The Prestige\, Black Panther and The Batman\, as well as award-winning television programs such as Andor and Longford. Andy has also established himself as a director with films including Breathe\, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle\, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In 2011\, he co-founded The Imaginarium Studios\, a leading production and performance-capture company. \nBeginning in a childhood split between Ruislip and Baghdad\, Andy Serkis takes us – and his characters – on a journey through the early influences that shaped him: acting mentors\, early roles at a regional repertory theatre\, a passion for mountaineering\, a desire for film-making and the love story with Lorraine Ashbourne that became the foundation of his life. Then\, the call arrives in 1999 that changes everything. Peter Jackson is preparing to make The Lord of the Rings and Andy is asked to audition for the voice of a certain animated character. \nWhat follows is an extraordinary behind-the-scenes journey through the fantastical worlds Andy has helped shape – The Lord of the Rings\, Planet of the Apes\, Black Panther\, Star Wars and more – as he pioneered a new form of performance that would forever redefine the possibilities of cinema. \nIn this memoir\, Andy invites us into a genre-defying conversation between actor and character\, imagination and reality\, and provides an answer to the question: what would Andy’s most iconic characters make of the man that brought them to life?

SUMMARY:Live Talks NY presents Amy Tan
DESCRIPTION:Live Talks NY presents Amy Tan discussing her book\, The Backyard Bird Chronicles \nAll orchestra tickets include a signed copy of The Backyard Bird Chronicles. \nFrom the author of The Joy Luck Club comes a gorgeous and witty exploration of birding and nature. This inspiring work cultivates hope and connection\, revealing the rhythms of our world and uncovering its beauty hidden in plain sight \nAmy Tan is the author of several novels\, including The Joy Luck Club and The Bonesetter’s Daughter. She is a co-producer and co-screenwriter of the film version of The Joy Luck Club and is on the board of American Bird Conservancy. She lives in Sausalito\, California. \nTracking the natural beauty that surrounds us\, The Backyard Bird Chronicles maps the passage of time through daily entries\, thoughtful questions\, and beautiful original sketches. With boundless charm and wit\, author Amy Tan charts her foray into birding and the natural wonders of the world. \nIn 2016\, Amy Tan grew overwhelmed by the state of the world: Hatred and misinformation became a daily presence on social media\, and the country felt more divisive than ever. In search of peace\, Tan turned toward the natural world just beyond her window and\, specifically\, the birds visiting her yard. But what began as an attempt to find solace turned into something far greater—an opportunity to savor quiet moments during a volatile time\, connect to nature in a meaningful way\, and imagine the intricate lives of the birds she admired. \nAlso available for purchase at the event is the The Backyard Bird Journal: Pages for Writing\, Sketching\, and Living Deeply in Nature\,a beautifully bound nature journal with a removable half-jacket and ribbon marker is ready to capture the happenings outside your window.  The Journal has a new introduction from Amy Tan\, her “no rules” guide to nature journaling with examples from her own work\, and daily journaling pages peppered with quotes and sketch art from The Backyard Bird Chronicles. \nLive Talks NY is produced by Los Angeles based Live Talks Productions which has curated the Live Talks Los Angeles series for the last 16 years featuring over 600 conversations with writers\, actors\, musicians\, humorists\, artists\, chefs\, scientists and thought leaders in business.
